Maybe my confusing amount of anger comes from how one of the most popular ships in the fandom ships characters in a surrogate father-son relationship

or, ignoring that element, in a teacher-student relationship

or, ignoring that, in a relationship that has so many levels of power imbalance it is impossible for them to function as equals as romantic relationships require

or, ignoring that, has an age gap so large that he can be the other’s father

or, ignoring that, involves one having a direct influence over the other when the latter was a minor

but mostly the fact that they’re basically got a father-son relationship that’s very clear in the original text

Yes, I know about the three pictures of adult McCree around the map. That’s why I said: “...the general rule is that the environmental storytelling on the maps is vaguely present, like contemporaneous with Recall or post-Recall. And elements of the Route 66 map are certainly so.”

It’s a post about how DESPITE that it should be set in the present, as evidenced by a lot of things, the environmental narrative, in what I personally can interpret, fits more a past era than a present one—given the limited information we have so far and the assumptions I have to make.
