It couldn’t possibly be true. If anything, Mia was just giving them all the silent treatment. She would really abandon her responsibilities like that. His sister was better than that. She was the responsible one.
He took the spare key from his lanyard, jiggling it into the lock on her apartment. Almost immediately, he heard dogs barking on the other side. That wasn’t too out of the ordinary, as they were often excited to see him. Any moment now, Mia would call them to quiet down and greet him, with that same annoyed expression he’d last seen her with. She’d ask him what the hell he’s doing here, and he’d feel foolish for believing these ridiculous rumors, and they’d fight, and he’d go home. That’s how it would go. That’s how it had to go.
The door swung open, a small pack barking like mad and running around, grabbing at his clothes with their teeth, herding him along into the home. Where was Mia? She should call off her dogs! He followed them, his mind reeling.
“Bunny?” He barely managed to shut the door behind him before he started looking for his sister. “Bunny, your dogs are going nuts!”
