Ever think about how Mal was like, one of the only good things about the orphanage to Alina back when they were kids?

No cause she took that so PERSONALLY. She latched onto a single person as a child, and was like “yes, this is gonna be my personality for the rest of my life.” Honestly, I get it. I don’t blame her. Mal loved her without receiving anything in return, without her being “special” and powerful.

I try not to think about it too deeply because I don’t think Alina is a bad person at all, I love her. But I wonder what life would’ve been like for her had Mal not been so determined to find the right orphanage. She wouldn’t have had as clear of a reason to defy the darkling, or to give up power, any of those decisions that ended up saving the world in the end.

I don’t know, according to fate, Alina and the darkling are two sides of the same coin. Mal’s fate was to die, to be enveloped and used by Alina. They said no. I just think that’s so romantic, and selfless in nature. I can’t stand it!!!
