If we ignored Veilguard what would be the ending you would want for Inky?

for all that I fucking hate some of the choices in Veilguard, the idea of an early 40s, 5-years into retirement Asha and Cullen and their dog going full folk hero for their dumb little cottagecore town and getting its entire population successfully out of Southern Thedas is genuinely very compelling to me. who else would you want with you in the apocalypse? (other than Zevran and the Warden, of course).

but, if I was to take Veilguard out of the equation, I think it is a very peaceful retirement tbh - I always planned for Asha's sister to be the protagonist I took forward. This is one of my few OCs who I can imagine having kids. But first I think she forces Cullen to live on the road with the Dalish for at least a year bc she desperately wants him to dismantle any remaining privilege, and fully understand her and her way of life. after a few years travelling like that (as a soldier, Cullen is probably Not That Bad at it) they would end up in a nice village and properly settle down :)

I read Eye of the Storm recently (so good btw, COOKED) and was wondering if you had any ideas on what Asha would be doing, during the events of veilguard? Would she be at the final confrontation with Solas or would she (and power to her honestly) be like 'nah no thanks'.

and also thank you for asking! for you see. this is a thing i have in fact thought about. a lot.

for my da4 timeline, I always envisaged the protagonist/Inquisition stand-in being Ellana Lavellan rather than Asha (giving her that default protagonist life I denied her in the fic lol). I thought this would be a far more interesting dynamic, not just because Ellana drank from the Well of Sorrows, but because I thought it would be fun if the person going against Solas ended up being someone who had an intense personal connection to him, but NOT a personal history with him (- how do you face down your sister's former situationship, the man that lied to her for years, took her hand and disabled her, but also cured her poisoning/tranquility and so you kind of owe him everything, etc?) I imagined that would be a much messier/more interesting dynamic to explore, than Asha and Solas, as I think they've said everything they need to say to each other by the end of Trespasser and what's done is really done for them.

(unfortunately, Lace stole Ellana's backstory that I made up 4 years ago lmao. that feeling when another red-headed rogue who is now magically connected to her ancestors and was involved in the inquisition gets powers due to the events of veilguard - although Ellana was going to get her magic from the fall of the veil lmao. so Ellana veilguard protagonist timeline really didn't work alas.)

So I guess, in the face of the underwhelming dialogue and characterisation given to a non-Solavellan-on-main inquisitor in veilguard (I will never forgive what a blank slate wet blanket they made my girl), and my headcanon that Ellana is the main Inquisition liaison now, Asha would not be in the final confrontation with Solas. I imagine that she was in fact living her best cottagecore retirement life with Cullen in a nice cottage in a small woodland village somewhere with the requisite dog, sort of half his happy ending and half a dalish one for her!

and then, when southern Thedas goes to shit, her and Cullen dust off their hero credentials and go full 'small-community-protection' squad (starting with getting both Cullen's family and their own village to safety, and then building some kind of fortified apocalyptic safe haven community from there). Solas, who? my girl is busy.

Don’t let their placid face fool you. Their full name is Asha “the fuck you just say to me?!” Lavellan.

A gifted scout but a hothead, Asha was not the original choice to be sent to the conclave. They were swapped in at the last minute when the clan’s First was injured in a fight against a great bear.

Asha has an instinctive distrust of shemlen that slowly softens on a case by case basis. They came to deeply trust Cassandra, and the two became best friends after Asha realized that Cass was into men and thus not an option for anything more romantic. 

Despite their anti-Andrastian stance, Asha is pragmatic and didn’t mind pretending to be Andraste’s Herald as long as it made their life easier within the Inquisition.  They take their duties in the field very seriously. but absolutely hate any of the diplomatic nonsense involved with the position. They’re happy to let Josephine handle as much of that as she wants to. Frequently has to be roused from bed for war table meetings by an increasingly annoyed Cassandra. Needs one full cup of black coffee with three sugars before they can even form a sentence.

Most missions were done with the Ideologically Divergent Girl Gang -- Cassandra, Sera, and Vivienne.

Asha is very neutral on mage politics. Growing up in a clan where magic was safely managed, they did not fear magic wielded by elves. Shemlen, on the other hand? Yeah, maybe they should be in Circles, they thought, after dealing with Alexius, Erimond, Samson, Magister Hallward Pavus, Corypheus... They generally feel that Circles need to be overhauled and run by other mages, but are preferable to unchecked mage freedom. Does not see mages or templars as a binary choice and broadly finds templars uncomfortable to be around. 

Relishes the thrill of big missions and feels the most clear-headed when in the heat of battle. Usually tries to spend as much time as possible on the road, only coming back to Skyhold to meet with the advisors and sneak in time with Josephine.

The choice in the Fade wasn’t hard. The Wardens caused the problem, and a Warden would pay for it. They didn’t personally dislike Loghain, and thought his likely death to be an honorable end.

Thought the physical sensation of closing rifts was actually kinda nifty.

Josephine rather of snuck up on them. Cassandra is definitely more their “type,” but Asha realized that Josephine always felt like a calm center in the constant bustle of Skyhold, and so they began spending time together. One thing led to another. And that’s how you end up in a duel.

Corypheus wasn’t even a blip on the map compared to some of the monsters of the Deep Roads. They dispatched him quickly and without mercy, then proceeded nearly directly to aid the dwarven kingdom. Truth be told, they found the Wellspring endlessly fascinating and probably would have stayed with Valta on an extended scouting mission if it weren’t for Josephine.

In the past few days I have become absolutely enamoured with this ball of sunshine created by the wonderful @ashatarsylnin from the fic Eye of the Storm

I am genuinely in love with this little delight to the point I’ve been staying up far past my bedtime to read this fic!

So I thought I would say a little thank you to @ashatarsylnin for bringing me so much joy the past few days, here’s my odd attempt at saying thank you for writing this story xx

Chapter Ninety-One The Inquisitor’s Confinement.

“Are you really happy to leave me here? Don’t you care?”

Solas’ eyes smouldered when they met hers, “of course I care. But it’s only been three days."

"Three days is enough, when you're the one being imprisoned!"

"I understand. But we must be cautious, and we must bide our time. We need to keep you safe… If you understood, just how far beyond my level of knowledge you currently are…” Solas sighed, looking frustrated. “Plans can go wrong, by pure chance! You are more than enough testament to that fact! Think how far the Elder One’s machinations were pulled out of his control, by your simple chance encounter with the orb.”

“Oh, fuck that! If we’ve gotten this far by fucking him over, then let’s cause problems on purpose,” Asha said. “Why is everyone acting like this is a death sentence?”

The silence that followed was deafening. Both of them knew: red lyrium was most definitely a death sentence.

“Fine, then. Say they have doomed me... maybe I want to doom them back! Samson gave you an abomination, and he knew you’d lock me away rather than use me. Because you’re all stupid.”
