Melisandre of Ashai, the red woman, priestess of R'hllor

Melisandre is a character where I had to remind myself that the ethnicities in the world of ice and fire are not one to one with earth. Most notably, her hair implies whiteness, as well as her pale skin. But east asian skin tone varies wildly, and there's no reason that the east asian inspired race couldn't have red hair. That's all assuming that Melisandre's appearance is at all accurate to her real self. At the end of the day, I consider it my personal job to include more asian influence in Essos.

Beyond appearance, I'm fascinated to see where Melisandre's story leads. She's one of the few characters in Westeros aware of the coming dangers, and essentially the only one of those few left at the wall. While her magic is significant, it's unlikely her and the few queen's men at the wall can maintain influence there before Stannis has the chance to return to the wall.

Even before his assassination, she seemed to be done with Jon. She failed to gain his trust, and he continued to ruin his relationship with those under his command. If she resurrects him, it'll likely be an accident, like the first time Thoros raised Berric. Of course, she might instead seak favor with someone else in the Night's Watch.

Whatever the case, Melisandre of Ashai has a lot more to do in the coming story.
