It's uncomfortable the amount of people here who are so quick to jump to Rhoam's defence as a character and as a father.
The game makes it clear as to why he behaves the way he does. He's just as lost and scared as Zelda is, but is trying to put on a front for the people of his country. But that doesn't negate the fact that Zelda suffered under his parenting. He wasn't just "tough." He makes a point to tell Zelda that all of Hyrule is watching her failure. He forbids her from engaging in her hobbies. He refuses to explore the idea that maybe prayer isn't going to work.
A bad parent can have all the reasons in the world as to how and why they make these choices. That still doesn't stop them from being a bad parent.
Ultimately I do feel some sympathy for Rhoam. Especially because it's clear at the start of BOTW how much lingering guilt he feels about Zelda specifically. Maybe that being the sole reason as to why he can't pass on. But guys, we don't have to downplay how much of a shitty father he was because he is a complex character. Some of you are borderline woobifying him.

POV you've hated your dad for following prophecy mindlessly but then you unlock your powers by panicking really hard and said powers do in fact save everyone and then you go back in time to the kingdom's founding and realize your greatest duty really was to martyr yourself for your kingdom.
