A-SHAPE TIPS
I simply posted this to give a gist of the exam to the people who are planning to study in ADMU. This is for the people who (like me) are terrified of A-SHAPE just like they would be if they were to take ACET.
1. English Proficiency
Wag ka munang dumugo, kakasimula palang. Puro grammar lang ‘to, kalma ka muna. The only challenge here is finding the right answer from the confusing set of choices given.
2. Math Proficiency
I think the math is bearable, compared to the next sections... I think this part uses more of stock knowledge. Pero syempre depende na yun sayo. There are of course difficult problems; I suggest you skip them due to the (very) limited time allotted. Try to focus on the questions you deem easy.
3. Reading Comprehension
I PROBABLY DID NOT READ MORE THAN ONE PARAGRAPH FOR EACH PAGE. That’s written in all-caps because of the regrets. Okay, maybe I don’t really regret it. I think everyone mentally-sighed once we saw the test booklet for this section. SUPER HABA. TAKE NOTE. YOU DON’T HAVE A LIFETIME TO READ EACH PARAGRAPH. Okay, so what I suggest is... wag mawalan ng pag-asa please. One look was all it took for me to almost give up. You’d think that scanning the questions first might be a waste, and will just take up your time, BUT NO, IT WON’T.
- Analyze the questions, can a majority of the questions be answered by common sense? Just focus on what the questions are mostly targeted at. Minsan naman kasi, binasa mo na nga lahat, di mo parin makuha yung tanong. There’ll come this temptation to just guess, and go shotgun, but don’t.
4. Logical and Abstract Reasoning
... holy sh**
Joke lang po. Pero yan din ho mararamdaman niyo. Esp. sa Abstract Reasoning. Maybe it’s just me, but the time pressure messed me up real bad, the easy questions seemed difficult. Please take a deep breath esp. on these sections. It requires a calm and rational state of mind. Char. BUT SERIOUSLY.
For Logical Reasoning, given is this constant set of choices. Each number consists of a given and a conclusion. Don’t fret for too long on each number.
For Abstract Reasoning, you know the drill. Just focus on what really matters. Some parts are present just to confuse you.
5. Analogy
You just need common knowledge. Basic terms are used. Eto po yung if cat : kitten, cow : ____ HAHA. But of course, not all items are this basic.
6. NUMERICAL ABILITY
dot dot dot
WHEN YOU THINK THAT THE MATH SECTION’S OVER. IT’S NOT.
Some will say this part is easy. But hell not. This section’s more on analyzing problems, and applying what you’ve learned. Some will say that the questions are simply some basic word problems. It all depends on you. I suggest you practice your word problems skills. Kung mag-aaral ka na rin, eto na aralin mo. As a fourth year student, we didn’t tackle much word problems; we were more of equations and figures. AND SO, this section was the hardest for me.
