modern au where clemmie and reaper work at the same hospital but in different departments, most of the staff are under the false impression that the two strongly dislike one another with all the snark that happens between them.

Marcus is sick of watching these 2 flirt. Like get a ROOM guys! (He's just mopey because Sejanus is on a sabbatical, visiting family) But he's also doing nothing to discourage the idea that the 2 hate each other. Give that man some entertainment.

Other random things

in the Emergency Department, you've got the attending: Reaper (day shift) and Marcus (night shift)

Clemensia is an attending in Surgery

a word of advice, do not make eye-contact with Reaper if you have free time while on shift. He WILL find you something to occupy your time with

Typical interaction between them:

Reaper: Here to poach my residents, Dovecote? Clemensia: Poach? That’s such a harsh word when they come willingly, Reaper. Everyone else: 😬😬

there's a betting pool on when one of them is going to snap at the other. weirdly enough, there's one person who thinks they're in love.

it’s Marcus. He's not passing off the chance to win the pot. Is it cheating if he was invited to their wedding 2 years ago? He says no.

Sejanus disagrees. They shouldn't be betting on their colleagues' love lives!!

ft. Clemmie & Reaper — post the art of falling (for you) 

Her hiss of pain interrupting her rendition of a poem has him sitting up instantly. "What happened?"

"Just a papercut. It's nothing." But even then, Clemensia winced, shaking her hand as if it could reduce the pain. 

"I'll get you a bandage." At her hum of agreement, he got up from the bed to head out the room and down the hall to where a pack of bandages were stored behind in the mirror cabinet in the bathroom. It didn't take Reaper long to return, much less clean and bandage her wound. 'All good?' was what he wanted to say, but when he glanced up to meet her eyes, the words that came out were another thing entirely. "Do you want me to kiss it better?" Wow. Way to go, Reaper. That was smooth. 

"Only if you're offering."

Maybe it hadn't been so bad, even his brain to mouth filter seemed to often malfunction around her. In his defence, she'd been the one to tell him such all those years ago. Besides, how was anyone supposed to properly function when those eyes looked at him like that!

"Reaper?"

Oh. Right. "Sorry, I got distracted by your eyes," he murmurs, to her quiet chuckles. "What? It's the truth."

"I should start charging interest for how long you're making me suffer in agony."

So dramatic. "I'll fix that, promise." Shifting so that they were both in a more comfortable position, he pressed a kiss to one cheek. Then the other. Then to her nose, and all around her face as she giggled. 

"Reaper!" 

"Hmm?" He pressed another to her forehead, purposefully ignoring the way she had tilted her chin slighly up so that he might catch the hint. Eventually, he gave in, pressing a kiss to her lips when she pouted. He would have to be a heartless man were he to purposefully ignore it any longer. Savouring the moment, the kiss deepened just a tad when his bedroom door opened without warning, causing the two of them to spring apart. 

Laurie took one look at them before instantly slamming the door shut. "Ma! Reaper is making out with his girlfriend behind closed doors!" shouts his younger sister from outside, probably loud enough for the entire district to hear. 

Great.

ft. Clemensia & Coriolanus (based on an old wip set post-canon)

Honeymoons are a difficult thing to plan when one is president, much less a father. Hence, a great deal of shuffling in his schedule was necessary to achieve a long weekend that was just for the two of them. 

Privately, Coriolanus knows that she'd have understood had it only been a day. But because it was her and not another, he'd insisted on seeing it through — after all, this was Clemmie. So he made it quite clear to his staff, that unless the country was on the verge of rebellion or the city was on fire, he was not to be disturbed this long weekend.

"Coryo?" came her voice from down the hall.

Fixing his tie, he called back. "Just a moment."

By the time he reached her, he found his son sitting beside Clemensia, captivated by whatever it was she was telling him. Oh. He'd thought that Augustus would be with his nursemaid after breakfast. Then again, Clemensia had taken like a fish to water to being a stepmother, so he supposed this wasn't so surprising after all. Catching the tail end of their conversation, he reminds his son, "This is an adults only trip," before pressing a kiss to his wife's cheek. "You look lovely this morning." While he'd never admit it out loud, he grew fond of this privilege that came with their relationship. The ability to simply lean in for a brush of affection that was freely given and reciprocated. 

"Only this morning?" she teased. 

"And every morning past and future too," he drolled. As he straightened, he caught sight of his son's pout. Coriolanus had to resist the urge to sigh. Children. "It's just a few days. We'll be back soon." His decision was final, even if Clemensia might not have objected to the idea had he decided otherwise. This was his honeymoon after all. "If we brought you along, you'd be bored within an hour."

"You don't know that!" huffed Augustus. "What is adult stuff anyway?"

"Kissing," he says impassively, without missing a beat, knowing his son was at that age where many boys believed that girls had cooties. A stage of life he was glad that he had skipped over. Just to emphasize the point, he leaned in to steal a kiss from his chuckling wife. 

Predictably, his son made a face.

It was not Reaper’s first time to her hometown, much less his last. But it was the first time he’d be staying for more than just a few weeks. This time, he planned to stay as she completed her residency in Eleven — a decision that had somehow baffled many of her peers and the rest of the Elite. 

Did they really think that studying a few years in the city was enough for her to call the Capitol home? It was as if they’d ignored the fact that she returned to Eleven every summer. 

Anyway, because he had decided on following her to Eleven, he’d looked into housing. Living long-term in a hotel wasn’t his ideal of comfort, or privacy. 

It’d taken some research before he’d found the perfect place. All he could hope was that Clemensia thought so too. After all, they'd discussed the possibility of living together in passing previously.

“Was the blindfold really necessary?” He suspected she didn’t mind that much, given how her voice held no trace of annoyance. 

“Of course, it’d ruin the surprise otherwise.”

“Am I allowed to guess?”

“We’re almost there,” he reassured.

Soon they arrived in front of a newly built cabin. He’d poured over all the records — spotty as they were in Eleven due to the war — before he’d found the land where the cabin of her childhood had once stood. 

They’d been fortunate that the land remained unowned after the cabin was torn down so many years ago. Too bad no records of its floor plans survived. So everything had to be built from scratch. And what details he did have were the ones Clemensia recalled, but they were more so descriptive than anything. Still, he’d tried his best to incorporate them into this cabin.

“Ready?” At her nod, he untied her blindfold and tucked the strip of fabric into his pocket. “We’re here.”

Eyes opening, she stood, transfixed by the sight before turning to him. “You had a cabin built.” Spoken in a hushed voice, he nearly missed her words. “Here?”

“I did.”

Her hand came to cover her mouth. No sound escaped as she turned back to stare at the cabin once more.

“We could paint it white,” he offers, trying to gauge her reaction. “Like the one from your dreams.”

Clemensia shook her head as she lowered her hand. “But it won’t be the same cabin.”

His heart sank. Perhaps this had been a horrible idea after all. 

But then she turned, offering him a small, hesitant smile. “Then again, I’m no longer that same little girl.” Her hand reached for his and squeezed gently. “We should make it our own.”

A beat passed as he processed her words. Then his hand squeezed hers back. “What if we painted it blue instead?”

Her smile grows. “I’d like that.”

Returning the smile, he tugged her towards the cabin. “Then let me show you the inside.”

Clemmie & Reaper wedding thoughts

got asked about them, and been thinking about it since haha. so thank you @moreespressoformydepresso

Pre-wedding photos:

It’s more of a thing done in the Capitol. But they found someone who was willingly to take them in the Capitol and 11. Imagining they had a lot of fun looking through various themes offered - probably settled on taking photos set in the aesthetic of previous generations (in the era of their grandparents, maybe? Or even great-grandparents, if not earlier) and current styles. Maybe also a nod to Clemmie’s heritage with this red dress that’s heavily embroidered.

Engagement:

They take a page out of 11’s traditions that’s evolved since the era of their great-grandparents. Nowadays partners making grass woven rings for one another is a serious sign of commitment. Usually reserved for proposals. Reaper was surprisingly able to keep it a surprise, he finds it usually fairly difficult to keep secrets from her. Clemensia, upon learning the meaning, insisted that she had to make one for him to show her sincerity as well.

Officially though, once they’re back in the Capitol, Reaper proposes to Clemensia with her grandmother’s emerald and diamond engagement ring (that was also previously Anise's engagement ring).

Wedding rings:

Reaper’s wedding band ends up being a near replica to the grass ring Clemmie had made him. Clemmie’s wedding band ends up being an original design of his — due to my hcs that he’s an artist. So he and Clemmie’s uncle worked to make his sketch come to life.

Number of wedding ceremonies: 2

Clemmie semi-jokingly said they should elope in 11. Reaper would have said yes, if he didn’t slightly fear that her father would kill him for agreeing. (Would Endymion commit a murder for this? Maybe not? Then again, this is his only child.)

The first one (the official one) in 11 — this was the one Reaper suggested in lieu of running off to 11 to elope.

In attendance were more of his friends and his side of the family. Although Clemmie did have her parents, alongside Felix and Nia. It was done following mostly D11 traditions.

She didn't wear a white dress. Hmm thinking something pale green or yellow?

Fun fact: Felix and Nia had previously argued about being her maid of honour. Upon hearing they planned a small & simple one in 11, Felix managed to convince Clemmie that it was only fair that he got to be the MOH since Nia won for the one in the Capitol. He may or may not have gone a little overboard with decorations (he takes his job very seriously). And he did ensure there were wisteria present (Clemmie's favourite flowers). He did, also, have good sense not to tackle the child who caught the bouquet. One of Reaper's cousin's kids.

The second one in the Capitol — mainly for social obligations, and for the handful of tolerable relatives on Clemmie's side that hadn't been able to come to the first one. Unfortunately, for the sake of maintaining social niceties, some families had to be extended an invitation.

Mostly done in the manner as the Capitol did. Although they did try to incorporate subtle nods to 11 for Reaper. (And Clemmie even if she usually doesn't know about her own ties in most AUs)

Depending on who you asked, it was either lovely, like something out of a fairy tale (Lysistrata) or hideously garish, something only the Dovecotes would do (Gloriam). You didn't hear it from me, but rumour says Domitia called the decor tacky, just to immediately incorporate elements of their wedding at her next party.

A lot more Capitolites in attendance at this one. Although, Reaper's family and some of his friends did attend as well.

Clemmie got a little impatient, she leaned in to kiss Reaper before the line 'you may kiss the bride'.

Felix absolutely shoved past Coriolanus, causing the blond to spill wine on himself, because that bouquet is HIS. He caught it.

The ring that Reaper officially proposed with

A silly ashcote au where magic and ghosts exist that's been floating around my mind for the past few days.

Clemmie and Reaper have known each other for some years now. Pretty close. Pen pals. Committed a murder together once. The usual friendship things.

Reaper's family has recently started getting on his back about him not seeing anyone. What starts out as a vague comment eventually became something along the lines of "yeah, I'm seeing someone. I'll introduce her the next time she's in 11." His sister assumed it was Clemmie, and he made a vague comment that was neither an agreement or disagreement. Unfortunately for Reaper, Laurie is a gossip, now the whole family believes they're dating 😔

He writes this in his next letter to Clemmie, and she tells him that sure, she'll play along. They can fake an amicable breakup or something at the end of her trip.

Thing is, he doesn't realize how dedicated she is to the bit. ie. she greeted him with a peck to the cheek when he met her at the train station and he was 2 seconds away from combusting.

He helps her get settled in the cabin she stays at (Hector's childhood cabin) and during this time, Clemmie finds a pair of rings. "Hey, look at this!" / "Clemmie. We're fake dating, not engaged." But he puts on the matching ring anyway just to admire it.

This is where it goes ‘wrong’. The rings immediately resize to fit them perfectly, but neither of them can take it off. AKA when your ancestors have a different sense of humour than you do.

There's panic but whatever, they'll deal with this post family dinner, because Reaper's family has invited her to so that they can properly meet her. Especially Reaper's grandfather, who's a little skeptical about this 'relationship'. His relationship with someone from the Capitol didn't turn out the greatest, so he's a bit concerned about his grandson seeing a girl from the Capitol.

Evidently, the matching rings get noticed. Now they're fake-married. "The only reason I wasn't wearing mine was because she had to get it resized for me" --Reaper, lying through his teeth. Dinner is fine though. She's charmed almost everyone. Still working on Reaper's grandfather who's a bit wary.

Upon returning to the cabin after dinner, panic resumes. Why is this ring not coming off?? Enter Ludius and Anise's ghosts who accidentally get summoned when Clemmie cuts herself in the cabin. It's a flesh wound. Nothing concerning. Small pause as her great-grandparents are like: Ohh this is our great-granddaughter!! Then they return their attention to the ring, just for Ludius to say, "those rings won't come off unless one of you two are dead." The rings are an interesting bit of spellwork in that, Ludius also made it so that if one of the two people wearing the ring is unfaithful to the other, death occurs.

Reaper: *trying to process all this. He doesn't disagree that cheating is bad. He's just thinking death is maybe a big step to take.* Clemmie: Wait, he has a point. They deserve death if they cheat.

Nevertheless, there’s a problem here. Those rings aren’t coming off unless one of them are dead. Neither of them are feeling very murderous.

The following weeks are spent attempting to overwrite the charm work while pretending to everyone else that they’re totally married.

By now, Reaper has moved into her cabin as it’d raise questions if they weren’t living together since they’re married.

At home, he has to deal with Ludius and Anise. Mostly Ludius, who swings between judging Reaper on every possible detail vs admitting he’s okay. Sometimes these two artists have opinions even if they work with different mediums.

Anise and Clemmie have bonded, she’s having in depth conversations in the garden about the poisonous plants that once grew there. Ludius and Clemmie vibe fairly well. Anise and Reaper vibe equally well over their Capitol “partner”. Sometimes they’ll look at Ludius and Clemmie and just be like, “Capitolites.” (Affectionate)

Ludius and Anise are also very perceptive. They’re constantly like: mhm, they’re just friends. 😏

Notable hijinks that also happen during this is Clemmie winning over Reaper’s grandfather. There’s a passionate speech involved with how he’s wrong to think she’d ever abandon him for some richer guy. (Of course she’s thinking this in terms of friendship. Totally not in denial) Reaper and Clemmie have a few more cute moments and both are wondering - would it be so bad if this was real? - but unable to say it out loud to the other.

This next part could be best summed up as: previous marriage pact between two friends nearly causes local man to lose his life to unhinged blond.

Trouble first arrives in the form of a blond man. Do you remember the marriage pact? Yeah, Clemmie made one with Coriolanus when they were kids. And only one of them took it seriously. And he’s come knocking. Reaper answers the door and is still committed to the bit - yes, he’s her husband. What about it?

Coriolanus takes it as well as you’d imagine. Not great. He’s also under the impression that Reaper tricked her into a marriage. While he can’t see the ghosts, they’re judging Coriolanus SO hard.

Clemmie was going to tell Coriolanus the truth about the rings but then she started getting upset at what he was saying about Reaper and the Districts that she didn’t even bother explaining.

There’s an attempted murder on Reaper. He’s recovering. Because he’ll live, Clemmie has left his bedside. She is currently on a warpath for a certain blond. She doesn’t care for subtlety at this point.

Imagining amongst the old guard there’s rules/etiquette that’ve stopped being popular after Ludius’ generation. Like duels. And Clemmie is bringing that back, she’s challenging Coriolanus to one to the death. She’s got grounds to after he attempted to kill her husband.

There is justice to be had.

This is how I've been imagining Clemmie's outfit in this current AU

While it does get a mention in the newest chapter of and then I met you, I do think these photos deserve to be showed off.

Slight tweak is that I imagine Clemmie doesn't have the nails or snake accessories here. And instead gets a dove hairpin as a nod to her surname.

It's definitely on the fancier side and not like the fashion we see in tbosas. But this is because it's meant to be an outfit Cleopatra lends Clemensia. And back in the day, Cleopatra was from a well-off family in the Capitol. I like to imagine she brought a lot of things with her when she went to Eleven to be with Hector.
