To discuss Occtis character art now that he's undead. There's a certain landmine here that might be getting stepped on accidentally that is avoidable with knowledge of anatomy and color theory. The problem is that this is a more difficult art lesson, so a lot of people are probably going to make the easy mistake of simply making his skin tone lighter to signify that he's undead now. Obviously that's going to then piss off some other people (rightfully so) even though of course the insult is completely unintentional. (Art is hard people, colors are mean, try not to be to much of a dick about it, especially as everyone is still workshopping and trying to figure out the characters).
So for artists, the way to think about this is not that Occtis' SKIN has changed, it's that what's UNDERNEATH his skin has changed, which then affects how his skin looks. Have you ever heard the phrase "grey with pain" where someone's blood leaves their face? Well guess what, our boy Occtis probably looks like that all the time now. He's a walking cadaver; dudes got no blood, or very little of it at any rate. So the warm tones you would have used for his olive skin before get mostly replaced with cooler tones to signify a lack of blood. He's now a cooler brown rather than a warmer brown.
So he's "paler" in the sense that he's super anemic now and he looks like he needs a blood transfusion NOT in the sense that he's a different skin color.
The sunken cheeks, unnaturally glowing green eyes, and the somewhat shiny skin, (as if there's a thin layer of pain sweat on his face perhaps) are also enough to help highlight the difference without the accidental race swap.
