Another fic idea- Shane and Ilya lowkey start getting into restraints, I don’t care when it is during their timeline, and Shane ends up going down a youtube rabbit hole learning how to actually break out of restraints of all kinds- handcuffs. Zip ties, duct tape, etc.
Years later he actually does get kidnapped- maybe they want to hold him for a game and let him out after with no actual harm intended or maybe it’s for ransom or maybe they legitimately want to hurt him- and Shane is definitely freaking out internally but he also goes into Competent Crisis Mode. He waits until he’s been left alone for a bit, gets out of his restraints, gets the drop on the one guy guarding his door because he’s Shane Hollander and his mom definitely put him in martial arts as a kid, restrains the dude and grabs the cellphone from that man’s pocket. He uses the maps app to determine his location and the nearest public place he can wait at, calls the police and then his mom (his husband is at the rink because they’re playing a game on home ice in another hour and a half dammit).
Long story short, Shane deals with the police, gets a ride to the rink from his mom, and doesn’t tell anyone what occurred. The story of Shane Hollander being kidnapped and escaping hits social media halfway through the game. The Cens are confused. Ilya is confused. David is confused (he had been at work). Yuna is proud. Shane is exasperated.
Those are the bones and anyone can change them. The main idea is just Shane being incredibly competent and skilled and getting out of a bad situation because those skills are a result of his sexcapades with Ilya. Maybe Shane goes viral again for it. Maybe Ilya has the most freaked out aggressive and possessive sex with Shane after he finds out. Maybe Shane does a post game interview and is hilarious and badass in a very understated way and the public is remembering why him and Ilya work so well. Idc. Do whatever you want 😭
