The Men in Black Fedoras in Ash
After increasing the brightness of this screenshot
I was shocked to see that the mysterious dark figures shadowing Ateez were wearing fedoras. Granted, they’re maybe typical western wear for a funeral/burial, but given the strong iconography of the Fedora with Halateez, it has to be an intentional reference for that.
My amazing roommate pointed out that they’ve noticed these guys in the background of other shots. So I went back, took some screenshots, and tried to increase the brightness as best I could.
It’s quite subtle and unnerving how they’re easy to miss, especially with the original dark lighting. That’s usually because the members are, of course, the ones we focus on, and their white clothing helps draw your attention. It reminds me of how Haunting of Hill House hides ghosts in shots- You only notice them when you look closely.
The shot of the group circling Yunho makes good use of the members’ shadows. In the upper left, you can even see a man in fedora standing right on top of a shadow’s foot, making it harder to differentiate them.
Okay 🫠
I'm dancing in the ash The rush you gave me I remember it vividly It becomes the past
