SHE’S HERE 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I have borrowed a loom. Specifically, a 20" Ashford Flip, with a stand, and all the bits so I can warp it without a warping board.
My plan is to use my hand spun for the (currently) 3 projects in my head - this is likely to change, as I was also gifted weaving pattern books and magazines for Giftmas (as well as more spinning fiber).
My first project is ready to be warped, as soon as I clear off the dining table and set aside a block of time. The second has the warp spun, I just need to skein and wash it; I'm spinning the weft as we speak. The third is coming together in my head - I'm test spinning some bamboo fiber on a drop spindle to see how it might behave as a warp.
What will I be doing with the fabric I make? Making clothes! Mostly shawls, ponchos, vests, etc - at least until I get better at sewing.
Currently waiting for the first coat of wax (I'm using cutting board wax) to sink into the wood of my new loom stand before I assemble it. Before I started I thought, oh, I haven't waxed the rigid heddle loom since I got it three years ago, maybe I should do that while I have everything out.
One coat of wax on the stand later, not even having buffed it in yet, I remember how much I hate this process. I'll definitely do two coats on the stand, but getting myself to do a third will be a challenge. My fingers already hurt. I'm pretty sure I did three on the rigid heddle, but I gave up after two coats when I did the Inklette.
As for the loom, well. If I do manage it, I'm definitely not disassembling it to wax it, and it's only getting one coat. But honestly I don't think that's happening.
I'm curious, if anyone else has an Ashford, have you sealed the wood or left it unfinished? If you wax it (using the Ashford wax or something else), how often do you reapply? Do you even need to reapply it?
SHOOTING THE MOON / OVER AND OVER
12.5 x 23 in. weaving on ashford loom, 2025
my final weaving project for my textiles class at uni!!
Moment of peace, extreme weaving close up edition. I was going to put music on this one but the sound was too good. Take a breath, friends 🧡
I finally got my inklette loom! I bought it second hand, but it was only used once and has all the original packaging and materials.
So, I immediately set out to make some heddles/leashes! I know I'm not doing it like it is supposed to be done,, but I find this way to be easier. I'm making way too many (40-50 probably), so I have some in stock for broken/lost leashes.
I already have the pattern I want to try first written out, so I will be getting to that later tonight/tomorrow! I'm so excited!
This arrived yesterday! Unfortunately my assistant in loom construction is rather unwell so assembly will need to wait.
16 shaft Ashford table loom with stand and second back beam.
First try at weaving
I finally received my new SampleIt loom from Ashford. This is plain weave made with an acrylic yarn. Not totally straight, but happy with the outcome since it was a first. It takes a lot to start the weaving I must say. A practise in patience for sure. I did everything right, except - I did it in the opposite way. So, I had to weave from the wrong direction he he.
