I know this is meant to be a youtube tag, but I’m really interested in the conversation surrounding it and... well.... I’ve tried making a vlog style video before and it didn’t go well... Anyway, this was created by Ashley Wilde and has been done by a few of my favorite youtubers; I’ll put links to their videos at the end. I will start by saying that anything I say in this pertains to my life and my experiences and isn’t necessarily true for everyone even if they identify the same way I do nor would I ever think that it should.
1. How do you self-identify your gender, and what does that definition mean to you?
---I identify as Gender-Neutral; also referred to as Gender-Queer or Non-Binary. I prefer Gender-Neutral because I feel there is less misunderstanding when it comes to my sexuality. What it means is that I am equal parts feminine and masculine and thus don’t fit well into female or male mental identities.
2. What pronouns honor you?
---He/Him/His: I see pronouns as denoting my physical gender, though I respect that not everyone feels that way. Also, as a Shakespearian, I really like Thou/Thee/Thy and do sometimes use them for the fun of it :-P.
3. Describe the style of clothing that you most often wear.
---When I don’t feel that there will be too much awkwardness my gender-expression is androgynous. I’m a big fan of long coats, splashes of color (mostly green and pink), and ribbons. I often avoid wearing things which will show off my femininity because it isn’t accepted or would lead to awkward situations.
4. Talk about your choices with body hair. How do you style your hair? Do you have facial hair? What do you choose to shave, or choose not to shave?
---I LOVE long hair. From time to time I wear it in pigtails, braided and/or tied in ribbons (I really love ribbons). I shave my face because I find facial hair annoying and itchy, and for no other reason.
5. Talk about cosmetics. Do you choose to wear makeup? Do you paint your nails? What types of soaps and perfumes do you use if any?
---I know how to use make-up for theatre but I only wear it on stage or when dressing up, say for Halloween. On occasion I will paint my nails and I own quite a lot of nail polishes, some of which I still have not used. I’m not the best at painting my nails and only wear it when I’m really comfortable. I really like sweet and/or flowery scented soaps, shampoos and conditioners… I usually choose those based on scent rather than quality.
6. Have you experienced being misgendered? If so, how often?
---Quite often and usually by the elderly or young children. Most of the time it doesn’t bother me too much particularly if they correct themselves, or are generally nice otherwise. I have gotten really angry at people because they mistake me for a women, but it’s always when I’m already in a bad mood. Also, I will never respond when someone makes that mistake.
7. Do you experience dysphoria? How does that affect you?
---Not for my physical gender, but possibly for my weight.
8. Talk about children. Are you interested in having children? Would you want to carry a child if that were an option for you? Do you want to be the primary caretaker for any children you may have?
---I want to raise a child when I am capable of supporting one. Any other decisions in this case would really require me to be in that place in my life and/or have a romantic partner. I like to think that if I were capable I would carry a child, but I can’t be too sure of that. I do like the idea of adopting a child despite not having a romantic partner, but again I am not financially stable enough to support a child yet.
9. Talk about money. Is it important to you to provide for a family financially if you choose to have one? Is it important to you that you earn more than any partner you may have? Do you prefer to pay for things like dates? Are you uncomfortable when others pay for you or offer to pay for you?
---I do not feel I need to make more or less than my hypothetical wife. I would want to pull my own weight of course, and families often need two adults to make an income as it is these days. Basically, it doesn’t matter to as long as my hypothetical family is being properly provided for.
---I would prefer to split bills on dates. The notion of paying for a date, or others paying for me, is uncomfortable for me. There’s a logic, or lack thereof, to this social tradition which bothers me and I don’t see it as good for either party. I could go on, and probably get on everyone’s nerves… so I won’t. This doesn’t apply to special occasions like birthdays though.
10. Anything else you want to share about your experience with gender?
---I find being a heterosexual, gender-neutral male a bit awkward. My choices are often unacceptable by society’s standards but far too easy to hide even if it makes me uncomfortable. I don’t consider myself transgendered because I do not experience the same problems as transgendered individuals and would feel I was disrespecting them by calling myself such. I get the occasional shout, misgendering, and very mild harassment, but rarely do I fear for my well-being. Mostly I feel awkward or uncomfortable when I can’t wear what I like or when I’m around people who don’t approve.
I hope that finds everyone well, and who knows maybe someone will read it and find comfort in my pigtails and nail polish. If you are that person: do what feels comfortable and know that there are people who will accept you even if the rest of society doesn’t. It can be uncomfortable and awkward, and even 30 year olds like myself feel that way sometimes. Just keep looking up and know that you are loved.

I love that these three youtubers are very different both in their regular content and how they answered the tag. This is a conversation for everyone and no one should feel they can’t provide their own input... even if they turn out not to be the best in front of a camera without a director... Anyway if you want to do this you can omit or add any questions you want. It’s about your experience.
Thank you for reading this and have a wonderful day.
