This is Camille, from the Ashraya orphanage, a refuge for baby girls threatened by infanticide. Her parent's don't know that she's still alive. She's five years old, and her favorite subjects in school are studying English and Tamil. Camille loves to make jokes and hates taking afternoon naps. Someday, she'd like to be a doctor.

Starting today, we're going to be spotlighting the Ashraya Orphanage in India. It's a refuge for baby girls who are rescued from infanticide because of their gender (i.e. dowries and other reasons). 

Midwives have rescued these young girls (sometimes having been bribed to do so), delivering them to Ashraya, without ever letting their parents know that their child is still alive.

This is Beth. She's five years old, and loves to dance. Someday she wants to be a doctor, and her favorite colors are black, green, and orange. She has nineteen other sisters, and Ashraya is all she knows.

If you want to help sponsor her, it's $35 a month to help feed and send her to school. Email [email protected]. And even if you can't sponsor her, that's okay. What's important is that we know those stories, pass them on, and do our best to help those that we can.

At the ICN Office...

Working on several things to share that are just breaking my heart, and nearly everyone elses' in the ICN office. It's going to be a series on the Ashraya Orphanage in India (good people doing their best to help the kids they receive).
