Zubdat al-Tawarikh (The Cream of Histories) is a summary of religious and political history of the world, up till the reign of the Ottoman sultan Murad III, for whom the codex was commissioned. The Earth in the center is surrounded by seven heavenly spheres, with the planets, Sun and Moon depicted as their astrological personifications; then follows the zodiac, the phases of the Moon and the lunar mansions, representing the position of the Moon in respect to the fixed stars on every day of the cycle.
