Zak and Ashwini walked onto the battlefield next to the Pokémon Center. In the end, Ash decided not to battle Zak, and Ashwini took his place, which Zak was looking forward to.
"So, I finally get the honor of fighting the Kalos Champion?" Said Zak. "I've been looking forward to this!"
Bea walked up as acting referee. "The battle between Zak and Ashwini is about to commence. Each Trainer will use 6 Pokémon! Are you two ready?"
"Yeah!" Said Zak.
"I'm not holding back, Zak!" Said Ashwini. "You better come at me with everything!"
"Naturally!" Shouted Zak, holding up an Ultra Ball.
"Wonderful!" Said Ashwini. "Twilight, it's time for battle!"
"In that case, go, Farfetch'd!" Shouted Zak.
Farfetch'd aimed his leek at Twilight, who snarled in response.
"We'll start things right! Farfetch'd, use Brick Break!"
Farfetch'd nodded and ran towards Twilight, brandishing his giant leek.
"Twilight, dodge and use Swift!"
Twilight jumped and fired star shaped projectiles at Farfetch'd, who chopped through them best he could.
"Alright, try Leaf Blade!" Said Zak.
Farfetch'd jumped and sliced Twilight with his leek, dealing huge damage!
"Good job!" Said Zak, and Farfetch'd nodded in response.
"We're not out! Twilight, Bite!"
Twilight chomped down on Farfetch'd's leek, trying to pull it away!
"Farfetch'd, Brick Break!"
Farfetch'd swung his leek up and slammed Twilight into the ground!
"Twilight, are you alright?" Asked Ashwini. Her Pokémon got up and smiled. "Great! Then let's show Zak we're serious!" Her Z-Ring started glowing!
"Twilight, together we'll show the full power of Alola! In that beautiful moment that conjoins day and night, we'll blot out the setting sun and welcome the rising moon!"
"SPLINTERED STORMSHARDS!"
Large chunks of the Earth fired right towards Farfetch'd, who glared at them angrily.
"So, this is a Z-Move! We can do this, Farfetch'd! Together!"
"FETCH'D!" Farfetch'd jumped and dodged as many chunks as he could.
"SIRFETCH'D!" He shouted, deflecting an Earth chunk with his shield!
"Awesome!" Shouted Zak.
Sirfetch'd, the Wild Duck Pokémon, and the evolved form of Galarian Farfetch'd. Only Farfetch'd that have survived many battles can attain this evolution. When this Pokémon's leek withers, it will retire from combat. After deflecting attacks with its hard leaf shield, it strikes back with its sharp leek stalk. The leek stalk is both weapon and food.
"Alright, Sirfetch'd, came up with a new strategy! Meteor Assault through the Splintered Stormshards!" Shouted Zak.
Sirfetch'd chopped through the rocks and landed the final hit on Twilight, who fell to the ground, defeated!
"Twilight is unable to battle!" Shouted Bea. "And congratulations, Sirfetch'd!"
Sirfetch'd nodded and wiped his bill.
"Yeah, good job!" Said Zak, ruffling his evolved Pokémon's head feathers.
"Ok, Zak. Let's try something else." Said Ashwini. "Go, Rocky!"
"Vee!" Out came Rocky!
"Return, Sirfetch'd! And go, Drilbur!" Shouted Zak.
"Dril!" Drilbur flashed his claws at Rocky, ready to battle!
"Ok, Rocky, Quick Attack!" Shouted Ashwini.
"Drilbur, counter with Crush Claw!"
Rocky rushed towards Drilbur, who smashed the fast Eevee into the ground.
Ashwini smiled. "Sand Attack!"
Rocky threw sand into Drilbur's eyes, blinding him.
"Its ok, Drilbur! Try Dig!" Said Zak.
Drilbur dug underground, as Ashwini saw an opportunity.
"Rocky, let's unleash our full power!" Her Z-Ring flashed, and Rocky jumped on her head.
"Together, Rocky, we'll unleash our full capabilities! Call upon your evolutions and harness their power!"
"EXTREME EVOBOOST!"
All of Eevee's stats were boosted, and he was ready for Drilbur's attack.
Finally, the ground rumbled underneath him and Rocky jumped to avoid the attack!
But it wasn't from Drilbur!
"EXCADRILL!"
"Another evolution!" Shouted Zak.
Excadrill, the Subterrene Pokémon, and the evolved form of Drilbur. It's not uncommon for tunnels that appear to have formed naturally to actually be a result of Excadrill's rampant digging. Known as the Drill King, this Pokémon can tunnel through the terrain at speeds of over 90 mph.
"Awesome!" Shouted Zak. "Let's finish this together, Excadrill! Use Drill Run!"
"Rocky, counter with Tackle!" Shouted Ashwini.
Excadrill nodded, launched himself and spun like a drill towards Rocky, who jumped and slammed him into the ground.
"Adapt! Overcome! Use Dig!" Shouted Zak.
Excadrill dug deep into the ground, and Rocky stood his ground, waiting for him to come up.
Finally, Excadrill burst through the dirt!
"Metal Claw!"
"EXCA!" To end things, Excadrill smashed Rocky into the ground, taking him out of the battle.
"Rocky is out!" Said Bea.
"You did very good, Rocky." Said Ashwini.
Zak patted his new Excadrill affectionately. "Congratulations, buddy!" Excadrill hugged his Trainer back.
"Alright, let's try a Pokémon I caught here! Nickit!" Said Ashwini, tossing out her Nickit.
"Return, Excadrill! And go, Jangmo-o!" Said Zak.
"Jang!" Jangmo-o popped out, jumping happily.
"Alright! Nickit, use Beat Up!" Shouted Ashwini.
Nickit rushed at Jangmo-o, and beat him up!
"Jangmo-o, Dragon Claw!"
Jangmo-o raised his claw and scratched Nickit super hard!
"Good job, buddy!" Said Zak. "Now, Headbutt!"
"Counter with Night Slash!" Shouted Ashwini.
Nickit slashed into Jangmo-o's head, and they came to a standstill.
"Now, Jangmo-o, Payback!"
"Nickit, Foul Play!"
Nickit attacked Jangmo-o, who returned the hit twice as hard.
"Dragon Tail!" Shouted Zak.
Jangmo-o slapped Nickit with his tail, sending her back into her Poké Ball!
And out came Ponyta!
"Uh oh!" Said Zak.
"What fortune! Fairy Wind!" Shouted Ashwini.
"Look out, Jangmo-o!" Shouted Zak.
Too late! Jangmo-o got swept up in the attack, and was knocked out!
"JANGMO-O!" Said Zak.
"Jangmo-o is unable to battle!" Said Bea.
Zak pulled out his Level Ball and called back his Pokémon. "You did your best. I'm so proud of you." Zak pulled out his next Pokémon.
"GO, SHUCKLE!"
Out popped Shuckle!
"Shuck!"
"Shuckle? Weird pick." Said Ashwini.
"Shuckle can do it! I know he can!" Said Zak.
"If you believe in your Pokémon, they'll battle their hardest for you." Said Ashwini. "Now, Ponyta, Dazzling Gleam!"
"Shuckle, tuck into your shell!" Said Zak.
Ponyta flashed with a blinding light, which didn't affect Shuckle when he was tucked into his shell.
"Now, Shuckle, Gyro Ball!"
Shuckle spun like a top, right towards Ponyta, knocking into her!
"Ponyta! Try Stomp!" Shouted Ashwini.
Ponyta stomped on Shuckle, who brushed off the attack.
"Shuckle's practically an iron wall when it comes to defense!" Said Zak. "Not a lot of people realize that, and think they're lame. But when I see my Shuckle, I see a fiery battle spirit behind his eyes!"
"Shuckle!" Shuckle nodded in agreement.
"I see. You really do think strategically, Zak!" Said Ashwini. "Now! Psybeam!"
Ponyta fired a psychic beam from her horn, right at Shuckle!
"Shuckle, Struggle Bug!"
Shuckle sent a swarm of energy towards Ponyta, landing a powerful blow!
"Lets do this with Sludge Bomb!" Shouted Zak.
Shuckle tucked into his shell and fired sludge at Ponyta, blinding her!
Ponyta swung her head, trying to clear her eyes from the muck.
"Ponyta, Dazzling Gleam!" Said Ashwini.
"Finish with Rock Throw!" Shouted Zak, picking up a rock and mimicking Shuckle's movement, minus letting go of the rock.
Shuckle tossed the rock and it collided with Ponyta, knocking her out!
"Ponyta is unable to battle!" Shouted Bea.
"Great job, Shuckle!" Said Zak. Shuckle clapped.
"Good job, Ponyta." Said Ashwini. "Go, Nickit!"
Out popped Nickit, snarling at Shuckle.
"Shuckle, Gyro Ball!"
"Nickit, Foul Play!"
Shuckle spun towards Nickit, but she slipped behind the Mold Pokémon and slammed him into the ground.
"Shuckle! You ok?" Asked Zak.
Shuckle struggled to get up, and readied himself.
"Ok, Shuckle, Sludge Bomb!" Shouted Zak.
Shuckle shot sludge from his shell but Nickit dodged.
"Nickit, Payback!"
Nickit slammed into Shuckle, sending him flying!
"SHUCKLE!" Shouted Zak. He picked up his Pokémon, who was knocked out.
"...shuck..."
"Shuckle is unable to battle!" Said Bea.
"You did so good. I'm so proud of you." Said Zak, calling back Shuckle.
Zak pulled out a Luxury Ball, and held it to his forehead, closing his eyes. "I'm relying on your strength. This is your first time battling after evolving, so make it a good one." He opened his eyes and tossed the ball.
"GO, TSAREENA!" Shouted Zak.
"Tsareena!" Out came Tsareena!
"Your Steenee evolved, huh?" Said Ashwini.
"Yeah. It took me by surprise, but she's been dedicated to training ever since she evolved! I think she's looking forward to this!" Said Zak. He pulled out his Pokédex to show Ashwini.
Tsareena, the Fruit Pokémon, the evolved form of Steenee, and the final evolution of Bounsweet. This feared Pokémon has long, slender legs and a cruel heart. It shows no mercy as it stomps on its opponents. A master of grand and beautiful kicks, it can knock out even kickboxing champions with a single blow. A kick from the hardened tips of this Pokémon's legs leaves a wound in the opponent's body and soul that will never heal.
Tsareena practiced a few kicks before standing battle ready and staring down Nickit, who was intimidated by the Fruit Pokémon.
"Alright, Tsareena, let's show Ashwini that we can do this!" Said Zak. "Start off things right with Trop Kick!"
Tsareena nodded and dashed towards Nickit, raising her leg before bringing it down on the Pokémon.
"Nickit!" Shouted Ashwini.
Nickit flipped back upright, growling at Tsareena.
"Nickit, Payback!"
Nickit ran towards Tsareena, ready to strike!
"Tsareena, Power Whip!"
Tsareena shot out a vine and slammed Nickit into the ground! When the dust cleared, Nickit was knocked out.
"Nickit is unable to battle!" Shouted Bea.
"Not bad, Tsareena!" Said Ashwini, calling back Nickit. "Ok, Heartshock, you're up!"
"Pika!" Heartshock nodded and jumped onto the battlefield.
"Heartshock, Iron Tail!" Shouted Ashwini.
"Tsareena, counter with Trop Kick!" Said Zak.
Tsareena and Heartshock met in the middle; Tsareena kept back Heartshock with her leg, while Heartshock pushed with her tail.
"Perfect!" Said Ashwini. "Heartshock, Thunderbolt!"
"CHUUUUUUUUUU!" Heartshock zapped Tsareena with a huge Thunderbolt!
"REEENNNAAAAA!" Tsareena cried out.
"Tsareena! Try Stomp!" Shouted Zak.
Tsareena raised her leg and tried bringing it down on Heartshock, but the Electric-Type was too fast!
"Electroweb!" Shouted Ashwini.
Heartshock threw an electric spider web at Tsareena, which shocked her as she struggled to escape.
"Tsareena! Try, um..." Stammered Zak.
"Finish with an Iron Tail!"
Heartshock slammed her tail right on Tsareena's head, knocking her out!
"No! Tsareena..." Said Zak, rushing to his Pokémon's side.
"Tsareena is unable to battle!" Shouted Bea.
"Tsar..." Tsareena looked like she let Zak down, but her Trainer just rubbed her head.
"Its ok, Tsareena. You did your absolute best out there. I'm so proud." Said Zak, smiling.
Tsareena perked up as she returned to her Luxury Ball. Then Zak pulled out an Ultra Ball.
"Finish this, Sirfetch'd!" Shouted Zak, and Sirfetch'd popped out of his ball, ready to fight Heartshock.
"Sirfetch'd, use First Impression!" Said Zak.
Sirfetch'd dashed at Heartshock and smacked her with his leek sword, but the Electric-Type recovered quickly.
"Heartshock, Quick Attack!"
Heartshock became a blur and attacked Sirfetch'd repeatedly, who shielded himself with his leaf shield.
"Sirfetch'd, Meteor Assault!" Shouted Zak.
"SIR...FETCH'D!" Sirfetch'd aimed his leek right at Heartshock, and fired a flurry of attacks!
When the dust cleared, Sirfetch'd wiped his bill, smirking, but was surprised to see that he didn't even scratch Heartshock!
"Heartshock, Thunderbolt!"
"Pika...CHUUUUU!"
Heartshock zapped Sirfetch'd, who cried out as he was shocked.
"Sirfetch'd! No!" Shouted Zak.
Sirfetch'd tried powering through the Thunderbolt, but he was overwhelmed, and fell to the ground, unconscious.
"Sirfetch'd is unable to battle!" Shouted Bea.
Zak picked up his Pokémon and rubbed his head. "You did your best, Sirfetch'd. I'm so proud of you." He called him back into his Ball. "I didn't expect Heartshock to be so powerful. But I can't let it discourage me. I have to stay strong, for my Pokémon!"
"With my next Pokémon, I might have a chance! GO, EXCADRILL!" Shouted Zak, tossing the ball.
"EXCADRILL!"
"Ground-Type advantage! Good thinking." Said Ashwini.
"Right! Excadrill, Rock Slide!" Said Zak.
"Heartshock, Quick Attack!" Said Ashwini.
Heartshock used Quick Attack to maneuver through Rock Slide, as Zak called the next attack!
"Excadrill, Dig!"
When Heartshock made it through, Excadrill was gone. "Pika?" Heartshock only saw a hole in the ground.
"DRILL!" Shouted Excadrill, knocking into Heartshock as he burst through the ground!
"PIKA!" Shouted Heartshock, flying.
"Heartshock, Iron Tail!" Shouted Ashwini.
Heartshock recovered midair and slammed her tail into Excadrill's head, but he brushed it off.
"Excadrill, Metal Claw!"
Excadrill swiped at Heartshock, but she was too fast again!
"Excadrill, Drill Run!"
Excadrill tucked into himself and became a spinning drill, rushing right towards Heartshock.
"Iron Tail, Heartshock!"
"Pi-KA!" Heartshock uppercutted Excadrill with her tail, sending him flying!
"Excadrill, Rock Slide!" Shouted Zak.
"EXCA!" Excadrill summoned rocks and they rained from the sky, right towards Heartshock.
"Heartshock, Quick Attack!"
Heartshock dashed into the attack, dodging the Rock Slide!
"Excadrill, now! Metal Claw!"
Excadrill slapped away Heartshock with his giant claws!
"Heartshock, Quick Attack!" Shouted Ashwini.
Heartshock nodded, bounced off a tree and slammed into Excadrill's gut! He wobbled for a second, and dropped to the ground.
"...exca..."
"Excadrill is unable to battle!" Shouted Bea.
Zak picked up Excadrill, giving him a pat. "You did your absolute best, Excadrill. I'm so proud of you."
"Drill!" Excadrill hugged Zak before he returned to his ball.
"My last Pokémon. Let's do this in one fell swoop! GO, LUCARIO!" Shouted Zak.
Out popped Lucario!
"About time you called me out, kid! Thought you forgot about me!" Said Lucario.
"Never, Lucario. Heartshock's pretty powerful, so be careful." Said Zak.
"Let's just get this over and done with." Said Lucario.
"So, you're using Lucario. But don't think Mega Evolution will help you! Heartshock, are you ready?"
"Pika!" Heartshock said in agreement.
Ashwini's Z-Ring started glowing again. "Then let's fight as one, and show the true power of Alola! Call upon the power of Tapu Koko, and become greater than the mightiest thunderstorm!"
"GIGAVOLT HAVOC!"
"LUCARIO, GET OUT OF THERE!" Shouted Zak.
Lucario stood his ground, staring at the giant buildup of electricity.
"Dude!" Shouted Zak.
"I have a plan!" Shouted Lucario.
Finally, Heartshock threw the Gigavolt Havoc towards Lucario, and he jumped over it, lightning clinging to his fur. Gigavolt Havoc missed and hit a tree, illuminating the entire sky for a few moments, before dying down.
"BONE...RUSH!" Shouted Lucario.
He ran towards Heartshock and slapped her repeatedly with his bones, dealing huge damage!
"Heartshock, Thunderbolt!" Shouted Ashwini.
Heartshock blasted a Thunderbolt at Lucario, but he got out of the way just in time!
"Lucario, Aura Sphere!" Shouted Zak.
The Aura Sphere hit Heartshock, sending her flying back!
"Finish with Bone Rush!" Shouted Zak.
Lucario summoned his bone again and ran towards the Electric-Type.
"FORE!"
Heartshock was sent flying into Ashwini's arms, unconscious.
"Heartshock is unable to battle!" Shouted Bea.
Ashwini brushed Heartshock's fur as she came to. "You did excellent, Heartshock." She said, smiling.
"Pikachu!" Said Heartshock, nuzzling into her Trainer's neck.
Ashwini walked over to Bea and handed Heartshock to her. "Please watch her, Bea."
"Of course." Said Bea, as Heartshock jumped onto her shoulder.
Ashwini walked back to her side of the battlefield and pulled out a Master Ball. She held it to her forehead for a few moments, and tossed it out.
"GO, LUCARIO!" She shouted.
"LUCAR!" Shouted Ashwini's Lucario.
"Lucario Vs Lucario!" Said Zak. "Who will win?"
Lucario stared at Ashwini's Lucario, and he felt his face start to get red.
"Why didn't you tell me Ashwini had a female Lucario?" Said Lucario, looking at his feet.
"I didn't know she was a girl..." Said Zak.
"I... don't think I can fight her... She's, like, really cute..." Said Lucario.
"Lucar?" Ashwini's Lucario walked up to him, making him blush harder.
"Um...hey. Guess we have to battle, huh?" Said Lucario.
"Car!" Said Ashwini's Lucario, nodding.
"Right, let's get to it!" Said Lucario.
"Ok, let's kick things off right!" Shouted Zak, raising his arm and revealing his Key Stone.
Lucario smirked.
"LET US FORM A BOND, BEYOND ANYTHING EVER SEEN! STRONGER THAN EVOLUTION! STRONGER THAN DYNAMAXING! LUCARIO, MEGA EVOLVE!"
Lucario was consumed in light as his transformation took hold. Finally, the light died and he stood in front of his opponent, with a grin.
"LUCARIO, LET OUR HEARTS BECOME ONE, AND MEGA EVOLVE!" Shouted Ashwini.
Ashwini's Lucario was consumed in light, too, and when it died down, she was Mega Evolved, too!
"Should've figured." Said Zak. "Ok, Lucario, use Extreme Speed!"
Lucario nodded and vanished from the field.
"Lucario, counter with your own Extreme Speed!" Said Ashwini.
Ashwini's Lucario vanished for a moment, before the two countered each other in the middle of the battlefield.
"You're pretty good!" Said Lucario.
"Cario!" Said Ashwini's Lucario, winking at him.
"Uh..." Lucario blushed again.
"Lucario, Force Palm!" Said Ashwini.
"I don't know Force-OOMPH!" Lucario was shut up by Ashwini's Lucario, as she Force Palmed his face.
"Sorry, Lucario. Use Close Combat!"
Lucario unleashed a flurry of attacks at his opponent, pushing her back.
"Now, Bone Rush!" Said Zak.
Lucario summoned his bone and wielded it like a spear.
"Lucario, Aura Sphere, Whip Style!"
Ashwini's Lucario summoned an Aura Sphere, and it took the shape of a whip, which she brandished towards Zak's Lucario.
"Never seen that before. But I'm not scared!" Said Lucario, rushing towards his opponent.
Ashwini's Lucario sent her Aura Sphere whip towards him, it wrapped around his bone and she yanked it from his arms.
"Pretty good!" Said Lucario. "But did you see this?"
The mini Aura Sphere hit her in the face and sent her sliding back a few feet (meters), but she recovered quickly.
"Lucario, try Extreme Speed!" Said Zak.
Lucario became a blur, and landed hit after hit on Ashwini's Lucario!
