Illness

So, it's common knowledge I have a skin muscular disease along with rhemetoid arthritis to those that know me fairly well. Today I had yet another doctor appointment which I have every 3 months. Since I was 12 I've had a bit of a journey. Today my dad asked me, why I allow people to research me. I have signed a waiver that allows my medical history to be researched as well as allow interns and whenever wants to see my medical symptoms with the participation with my doctor. He believes it's a violation of privacy. I had originally been misdiagnosed by my paediatrician when I was eleven. For a period of two weeks, I had gone from being a normal 11 year old girl who was quite active in sports and horses, to one that hadn't been able to get off a couch without assistance. In two weeks my primary doctor had given me diagnoses from spider bites to growing pains. Eventually I had been taken to another doctor, due to my parents belief my primary's negligence. From there I was taken to a hospital in Phoenix, Az [near where I originally lived] where I was properly diagnosed with a rare skin disease - that medical books for nursing and doctors only have about a paragraph on. If my doctor had known about my disease, knew the warning signs, the symptoms I could have been fine - not [then] in a wheelchair for a year. So sure it's a bother to having to be patient with the PA's, the medical students, occasional curious Doctors, even on occasion a physical therapist or two. But I rather have them KNOW my disease, see it, know what to expect in labs. Than know that there could be another child like me out there, getting told she's having growing pains.
