Which animal do you think Katniss is most like?
Oh, I could spend far too much time on this question, looping in fairytale elements and going back and forth, back and forth … but I shall restrain myself. In the context of the books, Katniss is most associated with birds: she’s high in the treetops, light, quick. She’s a songbird, a mockingbird (@papofglencoe’s meta on why Katniss is more mockingbird than Mockingjay blows my mind to this day). Cinna literally gives her wings so that’s pretty on the nose.
But (and I’ll freely admit this may be the product of one too many times reading When the Moon), despite the bird metaphors, my instinct (like, what would Katniss be if she had an animagus, so to speak) is to say: a fox. Particularly, a little, dark-furred, silver-eyed vixen: flighty, delicate, clever, woods wise, a sly hunter, a fiercely protective lover (alas that foxes don’t mate for life; I guess this one does) and mother. Foxes are also one of those animals that can be snappy (because they’re wild), but also weirdly approachable (because a lot of them live around humans and learn to trust them).
What animals do you associate with her?
(also, is it strange that the first animal that popped into my head for Peeta was a field mouse? That’s not the animal I’d actually choose for him I don’t think, but the idea of a tiny mouse perched on his paws, trying to court an intrigued little vixen with a pretty yellow flower twice his size, is hilariously adorable in my mind)
(also also, I will supply you with all the woodsy warmths!)
