If someone had created a, in their opinion, intriguing fantasy AU that they wanted to make into a comic or atleast make an introduction comic to the AU but they weren't confident in their art skills so they were debating the idea of asking for help{something they're a ill shy to do bc of personal insecurities} from artists in their fandom to bring the comic to live
What advice would you give them?
I think that the best advice I can offer, is in a short list. These are all in good faith btw and hopefully to assist, sorry if I sound rude in any of these, I type weird-
1. Simple first one, do not take the art and feed it through ai, I have see unfortunately too many cases of comic partnerships ending bc the artists art was fed into ai too finish the comic faster or whatever, it’s an invasion of respect and trust, so if you get an artist to create the comic for you, just don’t use ai after you get some art.
2. Unfortunately expect to be told no a few times before getting someone to do it, especially if you’re not paying them. I had been in a few projects creating art for free, and it was very mentally exhausting for me, and I wasn’t getting money to do it. A lot of artists only take art requests if they’re paid because art is a time consuming process and we are not free all the time, i certainly am not. So just don’t expect a yes from everyone you ask, but don’t take it as an insult to your own self, bc i promise it has nothing to do with that- artists just are also humans with lives, time is valuable and art is precious, and sometimes artists isn’t free
3. When you get someone to make your comic, have clear and kind communication with them, I do not like it when I make something for my friends and they give me the vaguest request, we need more to go off of. However do not be rude, if the artists art gets smth wrong, do not become upset, just clearly tell the artist, and request a change, that’s it, that’s all you gotta do, you might have to pay extra, but I know that a lot of artists are pretty chill abt that bc in the end, they want to give you a result your happy with
4. And the last thing that I’m gonna say is just don’t be scared, when your looking for an artist, pitch your au to them, tell them about the characters and world building, get them to care so they’ll want to help with the project! Don’t nt be scared to make changes in the art, don’t be scared and talk to the artist clearly about what you want, just don’t be rude about it, that’s it.
5. Just thought of this one and this one might sound a bit rude but I feel like it’s important. Artists working on your project are not your friends… unfortunately the internet has a habit of if an artist helps someone with a project the other person can become needy and pushy, trying to be super close to the artist and even try to gain personal information, no, do not do that, that is not good. Some artists online don’t want to make friends, I have made a few, and I think I’m good at least for now bc internet safety is important, understand ppls boundaries and don’t cross them, if th artist is older than you, younger than you, or just seems to not want a friendship, please don’t push it, it’ll just make them uncomfortable.
Okay, that’s it, hope this helps you, bye bye!!
