camp sgrub from paradox space comic #52 "summerteen romance"
I love teen summer romance a lot
Fuck anonymity/pos My homestuck hell started in 2018, so pretty late all things considered (I was a teen age), once THE PLAGUE hit I kinda dropped off the face of it, I never managed to finish the OG comic (I'm TRYING the ADHD just keeps eating me). WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED?? Like, seriously what is going on there is so much new shit and I am UTTERLY lost. What should I avoid what should I read? I want to be active again but my knowledge is from the OG comic, some of hiveswap, and most of friendsim and pesterquest (is that a hot topic game idk?? help??). What should I discredit and what should I look more into? I only ask because its so so SO much and i get so overwhelmed and I feel like if I don't figure out a starting point I may fall off again and I don't WANT TO. Your the only blog I've found that will give it to me straight. thank you for your time.
The number 1 starting point: Homestuck itself is obviously mandatory reading up to at least the end of Act 6, with GAME OVER being the end of canon Homestuck. Everything after that point is Retconstuck and was most likely ghostwritten by Andrew Hussie's circle. Most of Act 6 is is a lot angstier than the first 5 acts combined. Act 1 is a slow start, and I recommend treating it as a character-driven story until the plot picks up. Early installment weirdness, early acts had a lot of uncomfortable words and phrases being sent back and forth between the characters.
Act 7 onwards is considered Retconstuck and is not something I would recommend reading unless you're that hell-bent on seeing a happy ending at any cost. Optional reading.
Paradox Space is also optional, with the exception of The Inaugural Death of Mister Seven. Go read it when you reach the Midnight Crew vs Felt Intermission. It is peak.
Jailbreak, Bard Quest, and Problem Sleuth are all optional, but some of Homestuck's jokes will make more sense if you do read them. Problem Sleuth is the only one of these stories that ends satisfyingly, and it'll make the Midnight Crew vs Felt intermission make slightly more sense.
Mentioning Friendsim on its own above the cut, as the visual novel format is a more easily digestible way to read Homestuck content. If you're having trouble parsing the cadence, try this format first. However, some of the characters do get flirty with the MC, and several writers shoved their fetishes into the routes, which gives the game an unfortunate ick factor if one happens to be a reasonable human being who understands why that kind of conduct on Alternia is disgusting.
These are most of the things most current fans would agree are mandatory reading. Anything below the cut is either lower-level canon or not necessary to understand canon Homestuck.
I’m soooooo normal about these paradox space panels btw
I can't believe it's been that long, I still remember seeing the comic being uploaded daily like it was yesterday, with that said:
HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY TO THE INAUGURAL DEATH OF MISTER SEVEN!!!
