11. “There’s a blizzard out there!” “It’s barely even flurrying.”
Trevor knows he’s in trouble. Basically because he didn’t realize before hands that he’s not a New Jersey weather expert and that he should’ve known, after all his years in Michigan that winter in the North can be unpredictable. He’s not exactly in California.
He initially wanted to surprise Jack. They hadn’t had time to talk since the All-Star game and he wanted to see him again because he really misses him. And because he has a terrible and undeniable crush on him but that’s another story.
But his little trip doesn’t go as planned when he realizes that he’s basically stuck in Jack’s apartment as he overslept to catch his flight to go back with the team. The Devils played against the Ducks the night before and Jack invited him over last night.
But Trevor being Trevor, he didn’t put any alarm to make sure he was going to make it in it.
Instead, he receives a spam of messages of Sony and Jamie telling him how dumbass he is. “Fuck.” He curses as he stops going back in fourth in Jack’s apartment. “Do you think I can catch a plane real quick?”
“Trevor, there’s a blizzard out there!” Jack reminds him, trying to reason him. But it’s Trevor, he doesn’t actually think.
“It’s barely even flurrying.” Trevor replies as he opens the curtains to see… a blizzard, as Jack tried to tell him.
His best friend approaches him as he puts a hand on his shoulder. “Look, it’s a weather situation. If anything happens to you…” Jack doesn’t finish his sentence as he’s anxious.
They always had been ice and fire but they were always completing each other. Trevor is the easy-going chill guy and Jack is the anxious and earth to earth one.
And in front of this storm, Trevor has to resign. “Ok, I’ll try to explain how much of an idiot I am to my coach.”
*
The snow is falling and it’s incredibly quiet over at Jack’s apartment. Trevor misses that sometimes. Life in Anaheim is so differently weather-wise. It’s always sunny, hot and warm. New Jersey on the other hand is very similar to Michigan.
In a way, being there with Jack reminds him of when they were playing together.
“Trevor?” Jack questions him as he hands him a cup of hot chocolate. He’s still in his pyjamas. After all, there’s absolutely nothing else to do.
Trevor’s sitting in the couch in front of the patio door of the apartment. Part of him wants this storm to stop and to join his team but another wants to stay in with Jack a little bit more.
He misses him a lot more than he expected. It’s a part of their job but they were so close together that it’s hard to imagine his life without Jack being constantly in it.
“Thanks.” Trevor thanks him as he looks at Jack coming next to him.
“Not what you’re used to see in Anaheim, uh?”
“Not exactly. But living in Michigan thought me a couple of things about the weather, tho.” He laughs. And yet, he’s still in New Jersey. “I miss it sometimes.”
“Michigan? Yeah, me too.”
“Not just that, Jack. I miss you too. We were always together all the time.” Trevor notices that Jack just blushed, drinking his hot chocolate. “I’m serious, bro.”
Jack looks back at him. “You are…?”
“Of course!” He replies back. “You have something… there…” He says as he grabs a napkin to wipes out the excess off Jack’s lips. Jack just lets him of course. He doesn’t even move or say anything.
Their eyes finally meet and they exchange a long look. no words are exchanged. It’s like time stops around them. They hadn’t seen each other since the All-Star game and it wasn’t exactly the time for them.
Trevor doesn’t exactly know who does it first but somewhere in between the mix, their lips meet and they’re literally kissing each other. Jack’s lips are soft and they taste like sugar due to the hot chocolate but that’s exactly how he imagined it.
“I wish you could stay a little longer…” Jack whispers against his lips as they end the kiss slowly.
“Yeah, me too. But well, I’m here now, right?”
“Right. Can I…?” Jack half asks him to kiss him again.
“Of course.” Trevor lets him.
At the end, he’s glad for this horrible blizzard outside.
So I know you ship nick and cole but I want someone to talk about them so for you ship game could you elaborate on them.
ok let's go. *stretches her fingers*
1. What made you ship it?
their incredible chemistry they had right away during the time cole showed up last year during the end of the season and the playoffs. i feel like they are just naturally drawn by each other? like it was instant? and they kind of feel natural on and off the ice together.
like hello???
in that presser they were like... blushing talking about each other? i seriously never seen nick blushing this hard. it was cute. they were literally flirting and i felt like we weren’t even supposed to be there fdhsjkfhsdf
and their goals?! THEIR POWER LITERALLY?!
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
they seem absolutely very natural towards each other and they just... it doesn’t even seem force or anything. they literally enjoy one another. they post about each other on social medias and they are honest about it. plus the fact that they work together to make a goal happening.
B R O
DID YOU SEE THAT GOAL FROM THE GAME 5 AGAINST TORONTO? A CRIME. A STEAL. A TREAT.
cole said in an interview recently (on rds, the french broadcast here) that they don’t even try: him and nick just find each other. LIKE HELLO??!!!! LAWS OF ATTRACTIONS EVERYBODY.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
i don’t think so maybe i’d say that they can score goal without each other all the time? i don’t even think that’s an appropriate unpopular opinion dfhskfhdjfhjksd
Omg what about “is this your first time camping?” And “I burnt the marshmallow” “again?” With Suzufield? Pls? You can decide who says what 🥺
continuation of this prompt (can be read as a stand alone)
“Is it your first time camping?” Nick asks Cole.
“Oh no.” Cole laughs. “I just really hate it.” He admits, while sitting on Nick’s lap in front of the fire.
It’s cold outside and a little breeze is just touching them while they are both under a blanket. It’s a lovely night. Cole can’t deny that the view is an absolute dream, but he knows deep down that he couldn’t live like this every day of his life. But he likes it. There’s a lot of stars tonight and they are shining bright.
“I know you’re not the type of a camper.” Nick smiles. “Or just a nature guy in general.”
“I love big cities.”
“Yep, I know.” Nick echoes and it’s so simple but he seems to have memorized some characterization of his personality and Cole can’t help but blush at that. He knows that Nick is that type of person but it’s nice to see that he notices that.
While they are cuddling in front of this bonfire, but Cole can smell that something is burning. Yeah, he forgot that he was holding some marshmallows. “I burnt the marshmallow.”
“Again?”
“I’m kind of distracted by the view.” Cole teases him.
“Which one? The stars or…”
Cole has the brightest smile on his face. “You know which one.” Cole brings his face closer to his as he presses a kiss on his lips.
Person A takes Person B out on a perfect date. They’re having the best time together and Person B is under the assumption that Person A is going to propose to them, but Person A has no intention of doing that today.
for suzufield?
fdkhjkfshjkfs this went on a funnier perspective that i imagined. enjoy!!!
Nick freaks out when Cole asks him to dress nice and stuff but more so because he’s allegedly taking him to a romantic getaway dinner. Because he knows that Cole has something else behind his mind and that he’s most probably going to propose. Cole is the most spontaneous person he knows and the most unpredictable. That’s why Nick’s mind goes immediately there when he echoes his boyfriend’s words: “Dress nice and stuff. We’re taking the weekend off just the two of us, ok?”
And this is not the engagement that scares Nick the most.
It’s more because he is the one that has everything planned and under control. He’s the one that picked the perfect time, place, the people. He’s also the one that has planned a big old party for their future engagement. Yes: he freaks out because he feels like he’s the older one and that he should take this step a little further.
So Nick does what Nick does the best: worst case scenario, he takes the ring and surprise everyone by saying that they proposed unexpectedly at the same time and stuff. Goodbye the big surprise party for Cole, he has to think quick to save this disaster of a proposal that he all had planned before because this is it.
The day of the date, Nick carefully carries the ring in on of his special pocket suit. He still doesn’t know what’s on the back of Cole’s mind or where he’s exactly taking him but he wants to be prepared to everything. They drive for hours before finally arriving to this fancy restaurant. The one that Nick eavesdropped a couple of weeks before. He blinks because it takes him by surprise.
“I knew you wanted to come here for a little while!” Cole proudly says as they get out of the car and that they walk towards the restaurant.
Nick doesn’t really know what to say. “This... is perfect. Thank you really much.”
“Yeah, even if you’re the richer one, I thought it would be nice from me to take you out in here.” Cole kisses his cheek.
Nick blushes because Cole is the most all over the place he knows. And for him to take the lead in their relationship is new, but appreciated. Its almost makes him forget about the ring.
Almost.
“We’re going to take a nice bottle of champagne.” Cole asks the waiter.
And Nick freaks out more as his expression changes radically. Enough for Cole to notice everything. “What? Nick, are you ok?”
“I mean... yes... why wouldn’t I? I mean... when you order champagne it’s because it’s for a very special occasion, isn’t?” Nick sweaty asks.
His boyfriend doesn’t pick up on everything yet. But then, it strikes him like the lightning. “Oh my god Nick, you... you thought...?” Cole apologizes.
“I thought you were the one that was going to and... uh...” Nick tries to save the situation because he clearly understands now that Cole had no intentions to propose to him or whatever the whole situation he made out of it. “I would’ve said yes by the way but...”
And the little jewelry box that was in his suit pocket just drops on the table. And Nick blushes more when he realizes that he can’t even hide from anywhere and Cole’s expression says everything when he opens his mouth. Fair to say that they are both very taken by surprise by this.
“Nick...!”
“This is not how I planned it. Oh my god... I...”
“I mean, I’m saying yes obviously. But...”
“Yes? You’re saying yes?” Nick repeats in disbelief.
“Of course, I am saying yes! Why do you look so sad about it?”
“It’s... I planned everything out for this moment. There was going to be our families, the team, the guys... Everyone we love, we were supposed to be on an ice rink in the middle of nowhere and...”
“Wait.” Cole cuts him. “You thought that this romantic getaway was like... me proposing to you? Nick, I’m sorry...”
And Nick feels bad because now Cole feels bad for now having thought about it. What a pair of idiots they make, seriously... “You know what? That’s ok. You said yes, right?” He proceeds to take the jewelry box and open it.
Cole softly looks at him with a loving look with a little bit of tears in his eyes. “I would say yes a thousand more times to you.”
“Ok then, that’s it. You said yes. So...” He takes out the ring from the jewelry box and put it on Cole’s finger. “That officially makes you my fiancé now.” Nick then gets up of his seat to seal the whole deal with a kiss.
Bonus: they come back from this weekend where the Suzukis and the Caufields decided to throw a little improvised party to congratulate them after they both announced the good news on their weekend trip.
send me a disaster prompt + the otp of your choice and i’ll drabble it
May I request another Suzufield drabble please? This one with “ One of them gets sick on the trip and the rest drop everything to take care of them”. Maybe it’s Nick that’s sick but he tries to hide it so he doesn’t ruin the fun?
They had planned everything before hand because they knew that even if they had all the summer, they would’ve wanted to do everything. Nick and Cole decided to go to France for a week and to come back right after to settle down a little bit, going to London then to Wisconsin.
It was supposed to be perfect.
And Nick thought at this time that his body could handle it. These are vacations, it’s not that much of a big deal, right? He’s going to be with Cole, they will visit a couple of cities, travel to see their families and meet each other, it’s going to be all right?
Right?
Not really. Nick didn’t play all the games to just crumble to the ground and feeling unwell on his way to Paris? Absolutely not! The six hours trip actually almost killed his back. And there he is, on their superb hotel room where you can literally see the Eiffel Tower, a surprise that Cole made for him. But he doesn’t feel really well. Sitting for so long literally pained him but he doesn’t know how to tell Cole because he knows that his boyfriend would drop everything.
But they are supposed to have fun. It’s their only solo trip this summer and he would’ve wanted to be able to enjoy with Cole so badly.
“I know something is wrong, Suzy.” Cole affectionally calls him out. Nick is looking at the window where he could see the French emblem but also his reflection and Cole’s. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Nick sighs. “It’s our only romantic getaway.” He then approaches Cole to take him by the waist. “We’re in Paris, it’s supposed to be romantic, we’re supposed to eat some patisseries françaises in a cool café or something. Or better? Take a bike around the Eiffel Tower or the Champs-Élysées.” He brings Cole’s body closer to him.
He’s disappointed of himself because this was supposed to be the most romantic trip together before spending their summer with friends and family. Of course, they are going to spend a lot of time as a pair, but with some other people. This time, they were only the two of them and Nick knows that Cole is about to do everything to make him feel better. Even worst: he’s going to drop everything they had planned to take care of him.
“Nick.”
“Mmmh?”
“As long as we’re together, I don’t care where we can be in this damn world.” Cole says softly to him as he gently caresses his cheek. “Look, let’s just hang out here? I’ll go take the groceries and stuff. Prepare the balcony. Or I’m pretty sure we can make a bed with this sofa and...” He makes a gesture towards the view of the Eiffel Tower. “... And have our own little romantic dinner in bed in France. In the most...” He steals him a kiss. “... romantic city of all time, ok?”
Nick has a little smile beneath Cole as he kisses again before pulling him closer to give him a long and big hug.
When Cole comes back, he brings some baguette, some cheese, grapes, fruits and other usual stuff they find in they grocery stores. He also has some French wine and he even bought some flowers and some candle to light up. Nick tried to help him but Cole is doing most of the work before they cuddle in the bed in front of their view of the Eiffel Tower that starts to light up as the sun goes down.
Yeah, there’s no other place where Nick would want to be right now than in Cole’s loving arms.
send me a number (first meeting) (or anything else you can think about) + an otp and i'll drabble around it
nature prompt! B watching flower arranging tutorials to create their own bouquet for A.
with suzufield? :)
Cole has seen Eric doing it dozens of times for multiples occasions: for Guy Lafleur’s passing, for Army’s wedding, for Gally’s birthday, for Marty’s birthday even... He knows deep down that is Eric can do miracles with flowers, he can too! And he’s not the type to give up to any challenges so he really wants to do it.
Their unofficial anniversary is coming and he wants to do something for Nick. Something Nick wouldn’t expect from him, even if everything he does sometimes is unexpected to everybody. So Cole gives himself a mission: observing Eric’s work in his garden to make his very own flower bouquet to show how much he loves his partner.
Eric’s routine is pretty simple, he notices while he’s helping him with different projects: he chooses the color type, the flower meaning and then he tries to arrange it.
So Cole is going to do the same. He looks up into the web for the meaning of many different flowers and what he wants to offer to Nick, what he wants to tell him. There are so many options. But for this one, he wants it to be special.
He decides to go with some tones of declination of bleu, blanc, rouge in honor of their time in Montréal. For the red, he goes with some red camellias (“you’re a flame to my heart”). He then decides to add some white gladiolus to represent Nick’s strength and integrity. For the blue, he picks up some blue amaryllis for a symbol of their pride in and outside the ice.
Once he has them all, he tries a couple of combinations. And it turns out that Eric made it look so easy but it’s definitely not as easy as he makes it look. The first ones are ugly. And Cole isn’t good matching things together so he tries again... And again and a lot of frustration. But he’s too stubborn to even give up on this because he loves Nick too much to do so.
He doesn’t even try for the last couple of ones left because he hears the door and a voice saying: “Hello!” It’s Nick.
Cole panics but he sighs, he knows that he failed miserably. “In here!” Cole replies.
He hears Nick’s footsteps on the little stairs before he finally turns around to see Nick with a bouquet of sunflowers in his hand. Cole opens his mouth a little bit. “Hey, everything ok?” Nick asks him. He then tilts his head a little bit to see the experimentation behind his boyfriend’s back. “What were you...”
“I failed miserably to make the perfect bouquet...” Cole admits. He sees the sunflowers and then he remembers. “I adore you too, by the way.”
“What? Oh.” Nick blushes as he looks down his hand to see the sunflowers. “I... didn’t know it meant that. Eric just gave them to us. And the sunflower reminds me of how... joyful you are... so...”
Cole has a soft smile as he approaches Nick to take him by the waist. “I love them. They are perfect. Perfect as my perfect boyfriend.” He says as he presses a long and passionate kiss on Nick’s lips.
send me a nature or a camping prompt and i’ll drabble it
camping prompt! D was a little too good at telling ghost stories, and now the rest of the friends have to help calm a now paranoid C down.
lehkevans & chiarmia on a camping trip?
The idea came from Lehky and Yoel. They both wanted to take their respective North American boyfriends to a real forest feel in Finland by taking Jake and Ben into a hike in the beautiful landscapes of their native land.
There’s always something special about coming back home and sharing this type of moment with the people you love the most adds another layer to it.
The Finishes guys both organized everything in advance so there would be no complications.
Well except for the fact that they didn’t plan to tell ghost stories. Or at least, this idea didn’t cross Lehky’s mind.
Because if there’s one thing to know, it’s that Lehky hates them. He plays the big and courageous guy in the outside but deep down, he’s terrified of them. He can recall these endless summers where his cousins would terrify him with their particularly realistic ghosts and monsters’ stories of the woods. Finland has its folklore and it can be beautiful... or extremely horrific and scary.
The second part if what he fears the most. So when the double date finally settles in front of the fire, he expects Yoel to tell a fairy tale or something like that but he never thought of the second option. And Yoel is extremely into it. He’s not always the most expressive guy in front of a camera but right now oh boy that he’s showing his actor skills by miming every single scene with sounds and effects.
It doesn’t scare Lehky at first. He’s more amused than everything else but as Yoel progresses to the story, he feels that he’s squeezing Jake’s hand a little stronger than usual. And he’s not even the one who notices. “Ow. Hey, are you ok?” His boyfriend asks him, a little worried.
“Who? Me?” Lehky immediately shoots. “Of course! Why wouldn’t I? It’s not like... I was panicking or something... Like. I know this stuff too, you know? And this is my folklore and stuff and... I’m not afraid of anything in life right...? I’m not afraid of anything that’s is not real, what is that nonsense? Why would I it’s just...”
Yep. When he’s talking fast, he’s panicking deep inside and everyone knows it. There is a moment of silence.
“Why didn’t you tell us that you were afraid of this stuff in the first hand?” Ben asks.
“Me?”
“Yeah, you, you dumbass.” Jake kisses him affectionately. “It’s ok, you know?”
Lehky scratches the back of his head. “I don’t want you guys to stop having fun because of me.”
“Absolute nonsense!” Yoel cuts him. “I went with that because that’s the first thing that came to my mind but I should’ve asked first. So. Are you going to calm down and... we’re just going to talk. How’s Colorado?”
Jake squeezes his hand. “Yeah, talk to us about your new experience. Come on.” He kisses his boyfriend’s cheeks which makes Lehky blushes almost immediately.
“Fine. But I miss you guys...”
“Miss you too, buddy.” Yoel tells him. “Jake mops a little too much about it but...”
“Hey!” Jake laughs.
That makes Lehky smiles and he already forgets that he was afraid only seconds ago.
