On the front page of the New York Times yesterday morning, I discovered photos of black and white coral, dying under the oceans thanks to climate change. I looked closer and the coral was moving. It wasn’t coral but clouds of white and black smoke from bombs dropped on villages in southern Lebanon. “Satellite images, photos and videos show the scope of widespread demolitions.”

Demolitions. Pardon our dust. Not bombings, not exterminations, not war. “Israel Says It’s Applying Its Gaza Model in Lebanon.” Applying Its Gaza Model. Not destroying homes, flattening communities, displacing families. Casually redesigning the landscape.

The article kept reloading and bombs kept going off and the clouds of smoke kept spreading through Kfar Kila and Markaba and Taybeh and Meiss al Jabal.

Since the other creations of Michael Valentine were described as barbie doll smooth was OG!Virgina also like that and it was secret foreshadowing for Killers!Virginia being Agender all along?

hi anon what a question. Being agender is not about not having genitalia. I have genitalia and I'm agender. It sucks to conflate those things because they genuinely don't have anything to do with each other. Please see Gender and Sex 101.

Anyway to answer your question in too many words:

I don't specifically remember that line but it wouldn't surprise me if we said that about the Humans. I've never really imagined Virginia that way; to me, Michael Valentine finally creating the life he wanted meant that he crafted a fully formed human being, rather than just a stained glass approximation. In that sense, I think Virginia would have genitalia, but also I've never thought about it so I dunno.

Anyway! For the rest of the question: One of the major evil things about Killers!Virginia that I wanted to take going into the killersverse was that this version of Virginia would be the one that happily embraced her role as the daughter of Michael Valentine, for better or worse. This means she's probably never done any kind of introspection about her gender, and frankly she's probably just fine being a 'woman', whatever that means. It's comfortable, it gets her the things and attention she wants, and she's able to wield that as a weapon.

College!Virginia was the first agender Virginia and I hadn't really considered it before then. When we did the collegeverse episodes I had started to think about the word more as it relates to myself and that's around the time I started using it. So much in the same way as some of the other cast members were trying things out, I was too.

And it was very easy to apply that to the Original Virginia too, given that she's a construct. She is an Angel and a Human but she's also neither. She's Virginia Valentine, no more, no less. And she really has no use for gender.
