Ruby hadn’t really been thinking when she kissed Sapphire and it had been nice until Ruby realized that she probably should’ve asked permission or something. “I’m sorry!”
☠ ☮ Ruby
☠: Their worst habit.
Screwing over her life completely -nods-.
No, but in all seriousness, her worst habit is her ability to turn anything into a no-win situation.
Victor comes to comfort her? She spits in his face. The Queen says she appreciates Ruby's company? She thinks the queen is just saying that to make her screw up.Someone asks to marry her? They just want sex, and, besides, she's rich enough.
Her immediate reaction to near everything is to antagonize and doubt the people around her, and it's all but instinct now.
☮: How they keep calm.
She bottles it up, and clasps her hands together. If she needs to blow off steam, she'll take extra patrons that day, though now that she's expecting, she can't exactly do any sex work right now. So there's nothing keeping her calm but pacing and wringing her hands together and buying lots and lots of clothes, and drinking lots and lots of alcohol.
What a healthy life style she leads.
Tell me I'm pretty. ||| any combination?
Lavinia looked over at em, and promptly went Jem wtf?
Okay, forreal this time.
Ruby's laughter died out the second the question was asked. They were drunk, so it shouldn't have mattered. Both girls had had at least three tankards to themselves, and the way Gwenna coddled and Ruby flirted, it should have just been another question in a long line of many.
But she knew there was a sort of deep-seated insecurity here. Cillian was at the inn himself far too often, downing just as much alcohol as they were -- if not more.
Gwenna didn't know that. All she knew was that he disappeared for hours on end. And when he came home, every single penny he had earned that day was gone and spent. That wasn't even enough to buy an evening with Ruby herself. It wasn't enough for an hour. But it was still enough for the other girls -- for Amelia or Therese, or maybe Branwyn.
What else could he be doing with all that coin? Alcohol never cost that much, and Ruby knew how awful it would be to think he was gambling. It had to be a whore. It had to be one of Stradden's. It had to be someone cheap.
Gods, and poor Gwenna. She would never turn anyone away, especially not her husband from his own bed.
She reached forward to play with a stray lock of Ruby's hair. It hurt to have to pull away. To worry about what Gwenna might be doing. But Ruby couldn't risk it. She could not.
"You are..." she began, unsure of what the consequences might be no matter how she answered. "The most beautiful, of mind, and soul, and body. Never before have I met someone so charitable. So quick to a smile, and such a genuine one at that." She reached forward, brushing Gwenna's hair from her face. The laughter faded as Gwenna realized what Ruby was saying. "Your husband loves you, Missus Hart. I see him all too often at the Checkpoint, and never once has he sought a woman's attention outside of ordering another beer." She hoped it would be enough. She hoped she would be believed.
