Happy STS! Your characters are going to a haunted house! Tell me how it goes!

Happy (spooky) STS! :)

I'll be doing this for Starchaser, since even though I haven't posted about it on here in ages, I'm still totally working on it, I promise :,)

Phoenix - Probably suggested the haunted house in the first place. Is the first one to start screaming like a little girl once it starts to get actually scary

Falcon - Was dragged along by Phoenix and Tab. Is absolutely not enjoying himself. Also screaming like a little girl.

Tab - I diagnose her with the thing I have in regards to some films - she knows the technology too well to actually be scared. Falcon and Phoenix have to drag her away to stop her from dissassembeling the entire place out of curiosity.

Simon - Since many of my beta readers described him as kind of unnerving, I imagine the haunted house crew to be scared of him instead. Imagine being a poor college kid working on this halloween fair and trying to scare this fourty-year-old dude that just gives you a tired grin once you do. Horrifying

Sora - Is aware that haunted houses are not for him because he'd be to scared. He went to get ice cream and carve pumpkins instead :)

Happy WBW! Okay, honestly I'm getting a little crazy with this one, but I think it's fun. Two of your worlds collide! Whether it be time periods or genres or just two different high schools, how do they mesh? Pretend it's a little worldbuilding activity and picture me kicking my feet in excitement while you work. 🥰

Ouuh, this is fun!

Since I now finally have a big, non-DnD WIP with more complex world building (Hooray!), let the worlds of NNINBF and Starchaser collide!

The basic premise of Starchaser is simple - it’s the story of normal humans that get kidnapped into space.

The basic premise of NNINBF is simple too - how would a standard high-fantasy setting look like in modern times?

So first of all - the cast of characters would be a lot more diverse. In Starchaser, the humans are kidnapped from all around the globe. Scotland. Japan. Italy. The Americanas. But if we assume that the people that are being kidnapped are from Terra (the alternative earth from NNINBF. Very creative, I know), we would only have a handful of humans. We would have space Elves. Space Orcs. Space Dwarfs. And other stuff!

For the few species that are prominent both in space and on Terra, the meeting would be quite fun - especially the Lizardfolk. On Terra, they’re generally regarded as uneducated hillbillys, in Space, they’re one of the most respected and liked folk and generally known for being wise and intelligent. (Well… except for this guy maybe).

Happy STS! Today, I'm pulling away from characters (finally 🤭) and asking about influences. Who are your literary influences? Can you see specific influences coming through in some of your specific works?

Thanks for the ask! Good question!

1.) I think it was Marc-Uwe Kling (German author and satirist) who made me want to start writing in the first place and who got me hooked on the sci-fi genre.

2.) Seth Fried, the Author who has written my favorite novel of all time. He's the one who is responsible for me favoring first person over third when I write.

3.) Douglas Adams! I think it was actually me reading the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy that made me start writing if I'm being honest. Also, I think what really shows is that I occasionally try to immitate his descriptive style - for better or for worse.

4.) Terry Pratchett. Again - big inspiration for me, an absolute hero. I don't own all the discworld novels but maybe someday I will. Pterry has taught me the importance of eccentric and interesting characters - what is still something I consider the core-aspect of my writing.

5.) Jaques Futrelle - a lesser known mystery-author that I love with all of my heart. While Pratchett has amazing characters, Futrelle has my favorite character interactions that I still try to replicate. He did Sherlock-Homles-esque short-stories and the dynamic between the two main characters is probably still one of my favorite fictional friendships(?) ever.
