         ❝captain,you know i’ve never been the type to rest on what is thought to be ‘meant tobe’. i suppose i can be pretty stubborn sometimes too.❞ an understatement,perhaps, but he wouldn’t readily admit to it. he’s flexible on many things, buthe holds fast to others. defying fate is practically his mission, somethinghe’s been doing all his life, and he holds fast to the thought that he can runfrom fate and chase what he wants.

         buthe also admits that sometimes it just doesn’t work out. sometimes, no matterhow much he wants something ( orsomeone ), or how much love hefeels—it’s the wrong place, wrong time; it doesn’t work out. he’s sure he canfind something tragically beautifulabout it all, like star crossed lovers—he kind of likes the sound of that.

         he’s beckoned to her side by a wave of her hand, and as quickly as he comes, he’s made to sit down in front of her so that she can do something about his hair. it’s grown out since he’s been here, almost reaching his mid-back when before it barely grazed the top of his shoulders. some people have urged him to cut it, but he’s found himself liking how it looks ( and liking that some of the girls enjoyed threading their fingers through it ), and short haired seemed more difficult to manage. though this certainly wasn’t fairing much better, obvious by how unruly it had gotten, barely held together by the overstretched hair tie that held it back.

         he grimaces faintly as she tugs at the worn out band around his hair, then breathes a sigh of relief when his hair is finally free falling down his back. instinctively, he finds himself calmed by the captain’s fingers in his hair, untangling some of the knots he managed to make. he had to make a note to himself to take care of himself better so it’d be less painful the next time.

          ❝hm, captain… do you think i should cut it? or do you think it’s okay long? i mean… do you like it?❞ he hears her chuckle softly at his inquiry, and the rarity of it all prompts him to steal a look back; she has a smile on her face, one that brings one to his as well.

          stay still is all she says, a soft command said with that unfaltering smile. he returns facing forward, despite the bit of impatience that threatens to spill over. it feels like forever before she says she’s finished and hands over the mirror for him to look.

        he quickly takes it in his hand, using his free hand to feel over the pleats in the braid before moving the mirror around to get a better look. he narrows his eyes slightly, as if trying to decide if this look fits his aesthetic. ❝—do you really think a braid suits me, captain? i think i just might need something better than that old hair tie to hold it back.❞
