so im tryna write a gintama various x reader, but i dont rlly know how to write takasugi besides “emo dio” lmaoo. and i cant just not include him and have eveyone else as an option, that seems u fair. So got any tips on writing him? sorry if thats too much to ask

Writing tips, eh? Well, I don’t have special tips on how to write Takasugi, but when I do write about his character (or any other character), I usually ask myself these questions:

What is the his background? And how has his background shaped him as a person?

What is his relationship with the people around him? 

How does he view himself? What is his relationship with himself? (how a person views themselves may also affect how they treat others) 

What is his role in the universe set by Gintama, as intended by the original creator? The evil mastermind? The straight man in comedy? The tortured soul with no reprieve?

This may seem a bit technical, especially if you’re writing light-hearted fanfiction, but I think it’s worth the trouble to deeply understand the character so that it’s easier to write about them. If you’re stuck on trying to understand him, you can try searching up character analyses written by other people. 

Tip #2: Don’t try to force action. Gintama doesn’t belong in the romance genre for sure (that’s where our imaginations have to come into play lol). Sometimes, I feel under pressure to make everything SUPER ROMANTIC, even if it doesn’t really suit the character. Also, what I notice looking at some other x reader/ s/o is just how unnatural the characters seem to act, OOC if you will. For example, can you imagine Takasugi as a fluffy, beaming cuddle monster?? While the thought may be nice, most readers know who and what kind of person Takasugi is. When you give him actions that he would probably never do, it may-- frankly-- be a turn off. 

Tip #3: Go back and watch/read his scenes. The human mind needs to be refreshed every once in a while. Re-watching his scenes may show you details about his personality that you haven’t noticed before. Also, re-watch because he’s hot. Like, lord have merc-

Tip #4: You should have fun while writing about him! If you don’t really enjoy writing about him, then you don’t have to! We do this as a hobby. NO PRESSURE NO PRESSURE 

Obviously, I can’t pretend that I’m that good of a “writer” to be giving tips. Admittedly, I have some posts on my tumblr that I’m not proud of or I consider to be a bit OOC but that OK, I’m learning!
