Now I wanna make stuff with ladies in armour but I have no writing ideas whatsoever >W> (as in, I struggle to give *any* personality to characters ...even their name takes weeks at best) What do?
Hmm… have you considered writing fan fiction? Medieval, shogun, and sci-fi AUs for favorite fandoms are quite popular and a great deal of fun to experiment with as a writer. One of the nice things about fan fic is that it gives you preestablished characters with preestablished personalities, so you don’t have to come up with names and characteristics if that’s not something you’re comfortable with as a writer just yet. And what starts as a fan fiction can easily be evolved into an original piece with original characters. What are some of your favorite fandoms, and how might they function differently in an alternate universe?
I think I’ve seen you post about Overwatch, so let’s brainstorm some ideas from there. As a science-fiction-y game, how might your favorite Overwatch heroines function in a medieval fantasy AU, for example. What might Pharah be like as a knight in gothic plate armor, wielding a zweihander or longsword or poleaxe? What might Angela be like as a cleric in mail and white surcoat? Would Mei perhaps be a battlemage with frost-spec, then? Or what about Zarya as a mail-clad Kievian Rus berserker? Similarly, what kind of character archetypes might Sombra or Ana or Symetria or D’va fall under?
Not sure if Overwatch is your cup of tea? Into Star Wars at all? How might the Galaxy far, far away work as a Greek Mythology AU, with stormtroopers as Greek hoplites (Captain Phasma), fighter pilots as cavalry soldiers (Jessika Pava), and Jedi as Olympian heroes (Rey)? I’ve also seen Princess Mononoke in your tags. What might San or Lady Eboshi be like in a post-apocalypse or steam-punk AU?
Any other fandoms or AUs you’d like to bounce off of me? I love this kind of brainstorming, so feel free to hit me up!
Not sure if you’ve seen before, but just in case you haven’t: http://asklayaleopard.tumblr.com/post/166968935887/karnythia-tamorapierce
(Can’t send the link in a regular ask)
Thanks for the submission, @asklayaleopard! Yes, I’ve seen it, but I don’t recall if I’ve shared it. (If I haven’t I should have.)
Are there any online uploads of the more synth-laden, 80s sounding soundtracks from the movie? I can only ever find uploads of the more classical sounding tracks; good as they are, I want to hear the others as well!
Hi!
To be quite honest, I have no idea. I know there were a couple in the soundtracks/ost tag on this blog that had an emphasis on synth. I do know iTunes has the original soundtrack for sale and from the previews that I’ve seen they tend to be more 80s-ish in nature because they are the exact pieces from the movie itself. If you’re looking for a free online upload source, then I am at a loss. Perhaps Soundcloud?
If any other followers have any idea, please feel free to share!
Is there a name for swords like Kushana's. with that flared tip?
I am not an expert on swords, and I never actually thought that there was a specific sword type for Kushana. I just assumed it was based off of a longsword or something along those lines. From the minimal research I have done, I haven’t found anything. Sorry!
If any followers are well-versed in swords, please feel free to comment and help a fellow Nausicaa fan out! Thank you!
I wonder at what point the Doroks were cut from the movie, as that one early poster shows Ketcha and the other guy from her city
I wonder the same thing too. I honestly have no idea, but I think Miyazaki realized he couldn’t condense the plot of the manga enough to make a movie that incorporated the Doroks and Ketcha without losing the integrity of the movie itself. I watched the movie first before the manga and was shocked when I read the manga and discovered this whole entire plot afterwards! I know Miyazaki made the manga first before making the movie, but everything I really stated above is an opinion!
What's the difference between "The Art of Nausicaa" and "The Art of Nausicaa: Watercolour impressions"?
Hi there! I believe the difference is that “The Art of Nausicaa” is an older edition solely dedicated to the art and the making of the film. ”The Art of Nausicaa: Watercolour Impressions” is a newer edition, which has a section dedicated to the manga. Miyazaki first created Nausicaa as a manga and did a lot of artwork for the covers and such in watercolour. There is also a section for the film in this edition as well.
