Since you can't really tell what maenads are born from unlike with other types of nymphs. What kind of art were all the notable minervae born from? I guess Asha is probably born from music if her name means beautiful music

Actually I think maenads do have different physical qualities depending on their origin, even if I haven't depicted it in my concepts yet. I imagine maenads who manifest from art might have natural "tattoos" on their skin in the style of the artist. Those who manifested from books could instead have passages from that book on their skin. Those manifested from music could have unique sounding, melodic voices.

These things will vary by individual though. One painting-maenad could be absolutely covered in natural tattoos, while another just has one very discreet design on her buttcheek where it's rarely seen.

I think Asha was born from music too. Music is said to be a medicine for the spirit, so maybe she sang magical songs to her patients to heal them. :)

Can cecaelia and maenads and others with healing factor like that get tattoos and piercings? Do they have to pierce their ears again every time they put on earrings

Good question! Species with passive healing powers do have trouble keeping things like tattoos and scarification. This is why cecaelia take so much pride in their natural markings, because they can't really get permanent tattoos to decorate themselves with.

As for piercings, it depends. Mr. Roach, a cecaelian character, explains that cecaelia in his culture wear a fishing hook in their nostril after they get married. As long as the jewelry remains in the hole, the skin cannot heal over it, so it remains open. But if it's ever removed, the hole will heal over very quickly and it'll have to be redone.

I think what cecaelia and maenads do is wear a small "stud" in their piercing hole at all times. Maybe it is magnetic or has a little hook or ring on it, but it's designed in a way that they can clip earrings, chains, or other jewelry onto it. This allows them to switch out earrings without leaving the hole empty.

So are all of a maenad's bodily fluids wine? Do they cry wine? If they drink something will they pee wine that tastes like piss

All very good questions...I think this is true, any liquid that passes through a maenad is converted into special maenad wine! Tears, sweat, saliva, and...other fluids...

The wine would have slightly different properties depending on what orifice it's leaving though. Wine derived from their tears is salty, for instance.

As for maenad piss-wine, well...you'll have to use your imagination there. I bet it's a hit with trolls, considering their rancid traditional cuisine!

I think in general, the "wine" that a maenad's body produces is considered nasty swill that's only desired by freaky perverts. The good stuff comes from their magical amphoras, and they won't share it unless they like you. But if you do manage to get some, it's said to have intense euphoric effects and gets you really drunk really fast!

My favourite nymphs are maenads because while other nymphs turn into titans via some gruesome ritual, minervae are basically grown-up, mature maenads. Gigachad move right there.

You're so right. Maenads have somewhat of a degree of separation from other nymphs in a lot of ways and I think it makes them interesting!

That's a great question! Maenad blood has wine-like qualities, but I don't think it's exactly the same as the wine that flows from their amphoras. It has a life essence that the amphora wine lacks, which is what the vampires are really after.

Every maenad's wine probably has a different flavor. Vampiric maenad wine is on the bitter side, while non-vampiric wine is fruity.

Where do minervae's Tomes of Infinity come from? Does Karenza just make them from clay and maenad stuff or what

This was just retconned recently: Karenza transforms a maenad's magical amphora into a Tome of Infinity. (More info in the maenad/minervae article)

I think the amphoras already have some natural property that the Tomes of Infinity require.

Karenza also gives her minervae a magical creative tool, which she makes at an enchanted forge. They are always made from silver.
