My high school had about 1200 students (only high school in the town), and the principal put way too much focus on the sports teams (which actually sucked so hard), and only the jocks/preps and a few random others had any spirit. Except during spirit games, which if we attended, we could skip class. (I never went to them, though).
yeah in terms of sports, we had soccer, boys and girls volleyball, rugby, foot ball, softball, hockey, ultimate frisby and badminton.. They all sucked pretty hard and the only people that cared were the people on the teams. We got cheer leaders when I was in the 11th grade, but they didn't do anything either. Sometimes they had a megaphone at clubs fairs, but that got taken away quickly. I was ready to punch them so hard. Our most popular clubs were Debate, Mock Trials and Model UN. I was president of Art Club and we had 50 or so members (but only 10-15 came to every meeting), band was popular because it was mandatory grade 10 and onwards for people taking music. I think all the science clubs had a lot of members too.
My high school was also known for it's gifted program and I think in 2009ish we were ranked top 3 in Ontario (that's gone down considerably though). Everything in my school was based around academics..
