So, what do you think happened with Kiyotakas bio mom? Like what’s your own spin on it :0?

takaaki looks like the most divorced man ever to me, so that kinda informed what i think she was like.

being from a then high profile and wealthy family, and with toranosuke not wanting to risk takaaki ruining their reputation, i think he was arranged to be married to the daughter of another high class business family (it would also strengthen the bonds between that family and the ishimarus, so it was good for business).

while the two of them did grow close, i don't think they would've fallen in a romantic love with each other. there's this silent, mutual agreement that they wouldn't have ended up together had their families not gotten involved. if anything, they were friends who had an "us against them" attitude about their families, since they both have this resentment towards them.

she did love kiyotaka, although she couldn't help but realize that having a child would be the last nail in the coffin to her being forever trapped in this not-loveless-but-not-loving marriage she was forced into. she never took out that frustration on kiyotaka, but she and takaaki would occasionally let each other vent out their frustrations about the whole ordeal, their families, each others families, anything and everything. being the only people they were allowed to be completely honest around strengthened their bond and all that. what she never said out loud was how sometimes, on the very hard days, she wished that something big would happen so that she would have the opportunity to get away from it all.

when the scandal happened, she got her opportunity. it helped that her family was urging her to separate herself from the ishimarus so that they wouldn't be dragged down with them, and that the high tensions and stress everything brought caused her and takaaki to get into fights very frequently. still, she didn't expect leaving to feel so painful. takaaki was a good man, who didn't deserve to go through all of this alone. and she couldn't even begin to think about how her departure would affect kiyotaka. takaaki wasn't surprised when she first brought up the topic of divorce, he knew he couldn't force her to face the consequences of his own father's actions in the way he was. she would constantly talk about how her family forced her to do things she didn't want, which led to her overall unhappiness, and he didn't want to contribute to that.

kiyotaka was, of course, very distraught when she first left. his mom leaving, on top of everything that was already happening, was just too much for his young brain to handle. he came to terms with it, and even began to understand her more and more as he grew and matured. he doesn't blame her for leaving. if anything, her departure was the catalyst for how close he and his father ended up becoming. they both hope she's doing well, wherever she is.

I’ve had this one idea stuck in my head for a while and I think you may like it :> (idk I just want an excuse to talk abt Takaaki mainly)

Since Japanese police officers are trained in martial arts to offset the need of using their service weapons, I think it would be a lil funny for everyone who first meets Takaaki to be like

“Woah this dude’s probably weak as hell I bet I can take him in a fight”

Just for them to be absolutely pummeled by him.

I don’t really think Takaaki would train himself for strength though, mainly just defensive positioning/subduing people.

Although I do have an HC where he became an underground boxer after the scandal to make ends meet…

hmmm…. this i interesting to think about…

to me personally, takaaki is so frail and sickly looking that i can’t imagine him possibly being good at hand to hand combat. he’s got a hell of an aim tho.

maybe he trained when he first joined the force but never really kept up a routine post-tragedy (hell, post-taka being born probably). maybe he still has a couple of those skills leftover tho. he can dodge oncoming attacks pretty well. and while his punch isn’t that strong, he knows exactly where to aim to cause the most pain. his hand will be in pain afterwards tho.

maybe taka caught wind of takaaki being trained like that and that’s what inspired him to take up kendo and other martial arts. to be like his papa :)

I’m very curious- what do you think happens with Takaaki and Takemichi after the whole captive thing? When they’re free? Do you think they’d live together, maybe with Hiroko also? I’d love to hear your ideas! (Also, I really enjoy your art. It’s got such a beautiful style and the colours are very eye candy to me :) )

first off, THANK YOU FOR THE NICE WORDS!!!! :))))))

okay! i have a couple of continuities in my head regarding these guys, but because of my post i made recently, my udh rewrite continuity is on my mind rn, so i'll delve into it. excuse me for using this ask as an opportunity to do that, BUT I'LL EVENTUALLY ANSWER THE QUESTION I PROMISE

SO i do have plans for takaaki and hiroko in my reimagining. and that is that they basically have the mandatory b plot of the story (because i love them and want to include them in this story). the gist of it is that all of the living captives were successfully rescued and returned to the base hiroko's at. all of them except for takemichi. and hiroko knows takemichi's alive because the couple of times she sent people to go find him, they've come back bloody and bruised, saying that they couldn't get a hold of him.

she then pulls a thanos "fine. i'll do it myself." and has takaaki join her because she's NOT going out there alone, she knows he can use a gun, sees that a detective can be handy when looking for a missing person, and also they've grown closer since his arrival to the base. cue essentially two plots where the parties involved are going in circles trying to look for each other.

i think, it'd only be natural, for both takemichi and takaaki to find out mondo and kiyotaka are dead during the course of this story. it happens somewhere during the second half, but before the climax.

takemichi, of course, feels absolutely devastated after finding out about mondo. i see him diving into a depressive state, not finding the energy to do anything anymore now that the one person left who he felt truly connected to was gone. he doesn't see a point in anything anymore, so he gives up.

takaaki's the one who tries to kill people about it. or at least seriously hurt people.

in fact, takaaki turns into a temporary antagonist in the story due to how much the news of taka's death affects him. he has nothing left to lose, so he tries to get the ultimate revenge on those who failed his son, both by allowing the killing game to happen and by not supporting him when he clearly needed help.

(the story has a happy ending. but i am going to really do my work to try to get takaaki to a better headspace. like how hiroko's gonna have to do that in the story.)

i'm specifying this because in my other continuity, they find this out AFTER they get out of towa. so everything that i described pretty much happens after they get rescued (not to the same heights because they're under more watch and there's more people around to stop them before doing anything drastic)

so in this version of the story, while the two of them aren't anywhere near "back to normal" after leaving towa, they're on the path to getting help.

due to some other events in the story, i do see them living together with the hagakures once society is re-established. both hiroko and yasuhiro play a great part in making sure takaaki and takemichi are getting the help they need. they find little ways to honor mondo and kiyotaka (and daiya as well). through building a shrine in their new home, sharing stories about them, making the meals they liked, visiting the memorial that was built for them along with the other students killed in the game, through simply reminding themselves that mondo and kiyotaka would want them to keep going, to continue living for them and themselves.

they still do have to check in with the future foundation every so often to see how their mental well-being is, takaaki especially (he was deemed to be the captive in most critical condition). they never fully return to who they were before receiving the news, before their own personal tragedy, but they're okay, for the time being. the best part is, the whole experience in towa showed them that they weren't as alone as they thought the were. the hagakures feel more like family every day, and there are other people who went through the same experience they did. there's a future ahead for both of them. they don't know what it contains, but they feel reassured knowing they'll have the chance to see it.

as for takaaki headcanons..... i have a few. because i love to think about that sad old man.

i think he's desperately needed glasses for years but never made the move to actually get them. he thinks it's a waste of money and already knows he'd be constantly forgetting them. he's also managed fine without them for years, so why even worry?? *cue to him squinting to look at a computer screen*

he was kinda destined to be the dad who bragged about all of his kid's accomplishments at work, but he can't because everyone there hates him. he just seethes in place and thinks about how much better his kid than everyone else's.

LOVE the detective ishimaru interpretation of his job that we all just ran with. it's so funny that we all collectively ignored the fact that he's a police officer because he just looks too much like a grizzled detective. i have mentioned this before. but i think he was a detective before the scandal. then the scandal happened, and everyone wanted him fired because they lost their trust for him. the higher ups agreed that he should be punished, but he was a really good employee (curse the ishimaru drive. except for toranosuke ig). so they just demoted him to a police officer position while never lightening his detective workload. that way i can be consistent with canon while not letting go of the detective angle.

gives people he cares about random trinkets he found as a form of affection. it seems weird to a lot of people, but the people who matter to him appreciate it. taka was the main target of this behavior for a big chunk of takaaki's life. he'd get little things like new pen's and pencil's that takaaki found, stamps, coins, etc. (post-tragedy, it takes a WHILE, but hiroko, yasuhiro, and takemichi start getting gifts too.)

like kiyotaka, he has a lot of big emotions. he's just more restrained with showing them because he never really had anyone in his life who accepted those big emotions from him. it's a big reason why kiyotaka is very expressive with his thoughts and feelings. takaaki didn't want him to feel like sharing what's on his mind was a burden to people.

he's also. just very shy. he doesn't do a lot of talking. he kinda just grumbles with his hands in his pockets and doesn't maintain good eye contact. he's always been more of a listener anyways. people see this as very stand-offish. surprisingly, he only really locks in when in an interrogation setting. or when dealing with some especially rude coworkers.

he feels that making any mistake will make kiyotaka hate him the same way he hated toranosuke. yippeeee. he's so normal.

i do want to use this to segue into one of my biggest headcanons about him. and that's how he was raised by toranosuke:

so because toranosuke is canonically a hope's peak alumni, was the ultimate manager, and can be read as very self-serving and narcissistic, i think it makes a lot of since to read him as wanting his legacy to live on through takaaki. like his first child was a boy, so he decided that he didn't want to have any more children after that so he can put all his energy into shaping the one perfect successor to all his power. he believes a big part of that is takaaki going to hope's peak as well, since that's how toranosuke got a lot of momentum to begin all his business and political endeavors.

but of course he can't leave any of it to chance. he can't risk takaaki ruining everything for him because couldn't maintain control over his son. he has to mold takaaki into the perfect hope's peak candidate. he tried to accomplish this by keeping tabs on any kids takaaki's age that were already making waves for their being overachievers in their field (i'd imagine it'd be pretty easy to do that since this version of japan always has it's eyes on potential hope's peak students), pinpoint a gap where no one was doing anything extraordinary, and shove takaaki into that field so that he can fill the space. thing is, because takaaki didn't have a passion for these extracurriculars, he never really excelled at anything. he'd be average at least, so toranosuke pulled him out of it and tried again somewhere else. rinse and repeat for the entirety of takaaki's school years up until high school.

toranosuke just couldn't believe that takaaki couldn't grab onto anything, because he doesn't know what it's like to have to work and feel passionate about something to succeed at it. so he just thought that there was something wrong with takaaki that led to this outcome. he ended up just sending takaaki to preppy all-boys high school, and was never quiet about his disappointment towards his "unremarkable son."

takaaki grew up feeling very aimless because of all this. everything he did was in service to his father and his family legacy instead of himself. so he had this feeling that he wouldn't amount to anything, because he had already failed life due to never getting into hope's peak (he eventually just realized that his father was awful, but that self-hatred never went away.)

funny thing is: takaaki remembers expressing his desire to be a detective when he was very little (he always loved detective shows and books growing up), but toranosuke immediately dismissed the thought because the kirigiri's had a boy his age. they already have the ultimate detective spot secured, so there was no point in pursuing that. that boy? jin kirigiri. whoops.

anyways. takaaki knew he wanted to raise kiyotaka with the freedom to choose what he wanted to be, because he knew what being raised by someone who wanted to control you was like. so he let kiyotaka choose, and kiyotaka chose prime minister. like toranosuke. and he got into hope's peak. like toranosuke. because toranosuke's life was a tragedy, kiyotaka's life was a mission, and takaaki's life is a joke.

hope he gets therapy once he's rescued from towa city. i think it's in everyone's best interest that he does.

like i didn't really even touch his life after the tragedy. that's a whole other can of worms. but this post is getting long, so i'm gonna cap it off there until another day. he's so silly.
