Ask the Passengers Book Review
In Ask the Passengers by A.S. King, you follow a girl name Astrid Jones that's confused with her sexuality and don't feel love from her family and trying to live expectations of a small town Called Unity Valley.
When I first checked out this book two things popped into my mind.
#1. I never read an A. S. King Novel #2. And I never read a LGBT coming out story
Reading this in two days I knew I was in love with this novel. I gave this a 5 star rating and I would recommend this novel to anyone that is open to reading a story about LGBT.
Why did I like it so much and what is the message out of it?
I like this so much because it's real about high school life and the struggles teenagers go through and all the pressure from everyone when you’re trying to figure out yourself. I enjoyed reading Astrid Humanities class and how it help her come out on her own terms because she was getting pressured to tell her parents she's gay. But she didn't want to tell them because she was confused about her sexuality. Astrid was also afraid of what her family would think of who she really is. I love the fact that her best friends are gay and trying to keep it a secret from the town. But after the incident that got them in trouble in the novel everyone came out to their parents. So it’s just not Astrid's coming out story it's her friends too.
The message I got from this novel was it doesn't matter how old you are, we all have problems we have to face. We care a lot of what people think and have to say about us. But we shouldn't care what people think and that's what we see at the end with Astrid. We should go through our problems and be ourselves and be free.
