Okay, sit yourselves down, because I’m about to pimp my latest project hard. That up there? A brand spanking new copy of the classical fairy tale Cinderella, as told by authors Sofia Jensfelt and Alexander Jansson and published by Swedish publisher Olika (olika = different, diverse). Illustrated by yours truly.

So not only is it absolutely fucking gorgeous - I mean look at it, it’s like a rainbow jewel set in gold for crying out loud - it’s also got:

Gender roles turned on their head. It’s Cinderella’s boy cousins who are going to the ball, prettying themselves up for the Princess. (spoiler, not gonna happen)

People of every age, shape and color at the party! And this is only half the spread! Also, Cinderella may have gotten some help from the Fairy Godmother, but she’s made her own dress out of textile scraps. Rainbow goddess!

Did you ask for a quirky beautiful black royal family with gorgeous natural hair? Yes/no? Well, you’re getting it! (The castle on the cover was inspired by architecture from Morocco and Ethiopia, among others)

Cinderella and the Princess getting together? Got ya covered. (I will state that the Princess may be my favourite character ever designed for a children’s book. Look at her! She’s the actual sun, absolutely radiant!)

Let’s end on the note where they travel the world, fall deeply in love and end up getting married, shall we? Because those two silly over the top lovebirds right there are the best thing, fight me.

This book currently only exists in Swedish, but if enough people poke Olika about a translated version, they might just get on it! If you can’t wait for that, get your copy right now at Olika’s webshop!

You shall go to the ball

Fick som nämnt i tidigare inlägg tag på biljetter till förhandsvisningen utav Cinderella, den otecknade versionen av Askungen. Mötte upp med Linda och Anna efter jobbet igår och åt på Five Guys (hamburgare, riktigt goda!) innan vi promenerade till Millibank för filmen.

Filmen var drygt två timmar lång och innan den började visades Frozen kortfilm. Så rolig, Olaf är lätt bästa karaktären i den.
