ooc;; As someone who also watched Torchwood and even roleplayed Jack Harkness for a time, this is an interesting and very valid comparison. I’m sitting here as I eat my dinner thinking about this now. You always spark the most intriguing thoughts in head, you know that? :|
ooc;; but yes, Torchwood is, indeed, beyond the touch of the law, etc. They follow a path of their own, with only some very important regulations in order to maintain complete confidentiality. Everything Torchwood does must be contained, going so far as to erase those who work for Torchwood from the public records, in the event of death— as, often, their death is caused by something work related. It’s also seen that the only one to have a life outside Torchwood is Gwen, whom happens to be the most intriguing exception to some of these things. But, I digress.
[ooc] I admit I know absolutely nothing about what's being mentioned, and I'm slightly confused. Is Torchwood something different than Doctor Who then? I wasn't certain if it was something within the Doctor Who universe and assumed that might have been the case, but you speak of it almost as a completely different entity on some points.
But just from the few examples that you and Cyr-mun have mentioned, I can see the interesting correlation between the Turks and Torchwood. There is a very similar nature in the essence of what you're both describing, and it does catch my interest. Maybe come the turn of the year I'll marathon all of the Doctor Who in existence and see what all the hubbub is about--not that I doubt it, considering the few who have recommended it to me in the past. But time can be slim.
