upon first thought, of course, lloyd mistakes the lion for a manticore.
it’s the mane, he thinks. the mane, proud face, and powerful front paws. lloyd stares in awe at the warm-coated creature he happens across. never before had the young man seen a lion in its actual form. manticores boasted some similarities, but if the word chimera had been given to him, he would be far more confused.
in his wonder, lloyd approaches, yet keeps a safe distance. he is accustomed to wild animals, though he knows nothing of the nature of this one in particular, so the default wariness settles to fill in as the leash that keeps his curious soul at bay. it would not do well to tread into the den, so it’s said.
“wow, i’ve never seen anything like you before.”
