Wow imagine if Crielle had actually succeeded and sold her technology. Would it end up backfiring on a society like that kind of like how preference for boys during the one child policy backfired on China (there are now too many men and not enough women to the point the roles have reversed and daughters are now seen as more desirable). The Underline universe is so sexist and hostile to omegas it’s hard to imagine even a demographic shift like that improving things for omegas, but surely there would have to be unforeseen consequences
Honestly? Probably not huge immediate ones.
After all this is a place with like, biological primary sexes recognised, the One Child Policy still unfortunately happened in this world. And it's not like that erased the fact that people can kill their omega children with impunity all over the world. There was no "backfiring" there, it's still happening, it didn't do much good for omegas at all.
Crielle's technology ironically would probably have kept more people alive, given how many omegas can already be killed. The reason they don't have to have a birth certificate is so that they can be killed with no consequence. That already exists in this world.
Crielle inventing a science that would likely keep omegas (as forcibly transitioned alphas) alive for longer is not going to result in more deaths, but it will result in a lot more unhappy people who potentially have a chance to reclaim their lives down the track however they might wish that to look like. And that's at least better than generally being murdered at birth, even if it is still incredibly horrendous a concept. (Alive is usually better than dead, overall.)
