#JackedKirby - When Machines Can Read The Thoughts of Men!!! Machine Man was Kirby’s creation in the pages of the 2001: A Space Odyssey that spun off into his own book. The opening pages of #Issue3 of Machine Man (published in June of 1978) are some of the most forward thinking technological ideas Kirby put down on paper in his many years of working the funny books. We see an awesome splash of MM projecting an image out of his eye... but it’s not till the second page where we discover the source of the image!!! There is a patient lying in a hospital bed and MM is using his multi tooled fingers to probe the mind if the patient and fully display the fantastic images that are located within!!! Following up an opening single page splash with a stunning double page splash may be uncommon for the average comic artist, but for Jack it was just another convention that he pulled off So Well!
