a Common Assassin Bug, mouthparts extended as she sneaks up on an unsuspecting Grass-dart (who escaped unharmed). definitely some of my favourite photos I've ever taken, and such a fascinating moment to witness!

an assassin bug tried to follow me home after a hike the other day!! i think it’s a little wheel bug, since those are the only kind i’ve seen around here. somehow i managed to pick up no ticks but DID pick up a little killer

This stubby little assassin bug hunts millipedes. You would think such an insect would be found, like, somewhere near millipede habitat, but this one was flitting along a stretch of sidewalk.

despite being mostly known for their flower mimicry, some species of ambush bug like this Phymata monstrosa look like something you forgot in the oven or shadow the hedgehog. i can only imagine the goal here is mimicking bird poop but at that size it doesn't really work in a place without native hummingbirds

Pselliopus genus assassin bug babies continue to be the most clowny lookin' guys in the world!

NORTH AMERICAN WHEEL BUGS! I was graced with the presence of three separate specimens while I was walking around a nature area outside of my local natural history museum, and extra graced by finding one mid-meal! You can tell that these aren't adults because they don't have their "wheel" yet!
