I ave three leading characters in a fantasy novel - Ali, Aries, and Arthur. Is it a bad idea for all of their names to start with the same letter or not?
The same letter is acceptable, but it’s preferred if you avoid it. It’s a small preference that can be overlooked, as long as the name itself is different enough. You might run into trouble with the names Ali and Aries, since they’re close to the same length and look, as well as when spoken, they sound very similar. If I say it in a conversation, I find myself mixing them up or twisting my own tongue.
Aries and Arthur are fine because the length and look of Arthur is much different, as well as the end has a much stronger sound than Aries, while Ali both begins and ends similar to Aries.
If there’s a significance to the name, then you can stick with it anyways and readers will make due. Otherwise you might consider altering one to a nickname, a different nickname or their full name? In the end, the choice is yours as the author.

How do you write a believable bromance between two people who don't meet until after the beginning of the story?
The (possibly) easiest way is to give them something to bond over: an event, a favorite something or other, chasing after the same girl who denies them both, both of them being people who are difficult to find a flatmate for and then they go off to investigate a murder together… anything that connects and unites them.
Hope this helps!
