Some of the shop organization is coming together! Still need to put the drawer slides in for all the systainers to sit on, but at least now they are out of the way off the floor! I get to enjoy vacation knowing that I can come home to a (more) organized shop! The assembly table on the right rolls around and has systainers on the back side as well, 20mm dog holes on 1/3 of it for clamping, a 60dB compressor and hose reel, slots for storing small parts during assembly, my antique quick-release Record vise, and it’s the right height to serve as an outfeed table for my @sawstopsaws table saw! I’m using the @kregjig top track for the miter saw fence and my dust extractor runs up from the back. Today’s shop project to the new assembly table was to install a bench vise. I made the decision to uninstall the one off of my old workbench and reinstall it on this one. First I had to cut one end of the bench top flush and the circular saw actually got very close. Thought I could just belt sand out the rest but ended up using a flush trim bit on my router and it made quick work of it. My son gave me the assist on this one and as usual was extremely helpful especially getting in the tight space under the workbench and being the helping hand I needed while I was pretty much stuck in there. The bench vise worked great. Added the first accessory to the assembly table / workbench. The top shelf will be used for a roll of builder’s paper or painter’s paper (or whatever you want to call it) so that I can roll it out for glue ups and finishing etc. My kids had other ideas and are apparently going to be using it for their own personal mobile cart / artist studio. Here’s the process video for installing the bottom shelf of my shop built assembly table. I realized after the fact that I never installed the cross braces on the frame so I had to go back and do that. Notched out the 1/2” plywood so it would fit around the frame where needed and it actually fit which was a minor miracle. Continued working on the new assembly table today. My son - “Pocket hole” Wicks helped in the beginning but left me for his sister so I had to fend for myself. Maybe I should change his name to Kreg or maybe Kreg Jig Wicks 🤔 .... but I digress.... Framed out the workbench for the bottom shelf and the top. Used 13.5” spacers clamped to the legs so that I could make sure I had the stretchers all at a uniform height. Continued making the shelves for the new assembly table. This work bench build will have 4 shelves on one end of it. The top I’m going to dedicate to a role of butcher paper that I can roll out as needed for glue ups. Common finishes, glue accessories, corner clamps, etc. will fill out the rest. The shelves themselves were super easy to make using cleats and spacers. The bottom was kind of a happy accident as it was much shorter than I anticipated in my measurements but I think it will actually work great for lower profile items. That’s the great thing about shop furniture. Mistakes can turn in to non-issues depending on how you look at it! Continued working on our mobile assembly table / work bench project. There will be four shelves on one end and here we’re just building the carcass for that. My son and I started on our new mobile assembly table for the work shop. Today we just made the base and it seemed like a logical spot to finish for the day. My son was in charge of the pocket holes and the lead Kreg jig technician. Gave him very minimal instruction just to see what he could do and he was able to pull it off! Super proud dad moment! As a reward I let him be the first one to surf on the mobile base.
