Using a survey site like Survey Monkey is a great idea for assessing students grasp on lesson content. I believe that these test should be used a formative assessment to see if the students understand or even read the content that was given to them. Even if students could open up content into another browser while taking the test, it would most likely force them to read the information just so they could find the answer.
I enjoyed writing the test this way. Adding images was pretty easy, although using the links from Flickr did not work that well. I had to download the images onto my laptop and then upload them again to survey monkey.
I did appreciate the results collection and data analysis tab of the survey. These could be helpful for getting an idea on where everyone is standing with the content at the same time. This does also reveal any misunderstandings that could be cleared up and anything that needs further explanation is a real time format.
I’m sure with a paid subscription to this site,I could take the individual responses by name and address any wrong answers with those individuals as opposed to guessing who said what and who may need a little help.
One other issue I do have with this is the students does not know the correct answer right away and must wait to find out if they missed specific questions from the assessment. I’m sure it would be helpful to know this type of stuff right away as opposed to not.
