I have been neglecting to update this, I am sorry it has become a habit. I need to take care of this personal stuff a lot more often than I have been.
We are the union
This was a solid album, more pop-punk than ska which is not what I expected. The lyrics were pretty good, but I could have done with a little bit better production. I did appreciate that there were some breakdowns.
Broadside Melodic pop-punk but not what their singles led you to believe. The album on a whole was a little more emo than bubblegum pop-punk. Still good, pretty good lyrics and good production.
Veil of Maya
Not what I was expecting. They went full periphery on this one. The singing and the ultra-melody rather than another death core album. It was good but I don’t know that it will make it into my regular rotation anytime soon.
Four Years Strong
This was good, not as good as I was hoping though. It just didn’t playback as well as I was hoping. The tunes are all pretty good but there was something about it that didn’t quite sit well with me.
Assorted Jellybeans
Not my favorite, this band really wanted to be Operation Ivy with Fat Mike on Vocals. I just wasn’t really down with this as much. I am supposed to be playing with them in a couple of months, we’ll see how different it is after so many years.
Turning point Sweet. This was cool because it was this weird overlap section of late eighties metal and hardcore. It sounded like vicious rumors had a punk drummer and vocalist. Sweet riffs and to the point songs.
Infinity on High I had heard singles from this but never delved into it. It was pretty great, I’ll probably be listening to this for a while. It is easy to see how they could convert to the more pop driven stuff after listening to this album, it really shouldn’t have come to anyone’s surprise.
Municipal Waste
The best. Seriously these guys are scholars of the whole crossover thing. They deserve to be at the top of the whole re-thrash thing. My favorite moments were the ones that harkened back to more classic heavy metal moments though.
