I was inspired by my friend @geist19's drawing of his old tournament protagonist, and I realized I hadn't drawn Esta Shohreh Mazdak in a while. Here she is! The little winner of Dreamwoods OCT.

A watercolor / gouache piece of some of my characters I made for my fictional Aster Empire universe’s royal family.
On the left is Mina ka Phalo. Her mother is Lady Noloyiso, one of the few wives of the Former Great King who was willing to hang out with Queen Esta I after her take over of the Aster Empire. Partially because of the kinship of coming from the same home planet, and that she tries to be a moral compass to Esta I (which is a pretty hard job.) Mina is therefore her half brother’s closest sibling.
In the center is Prince Cyrus, who would later become King Cyrus the 11th. He’s been the heir to the Throne ever since Queen Esta I killed all his older half brothers while he was still an infant, leaving him as the sole surviving heir. Despite being heir, Esta I has yet to pass down her crown.
On the right is Lady Nefurere Gamal, the adopted daughter of a noble family who is totally not Cyrus’s secret half-sister. The queen just lets her hang out as an “advisor” in the palaces and takes her on hunting trips all the time because she reminds her of herself when she was younger. Don’t question it. The queen swore an oath of celibacy.

Inktober 2020 doodle of my OC Queen Esta I with one of her lovers, (and possibly Nefurere’s father).
I haven’t made a comic about the Mazdak kids for awhile, although I guess Nefurere isn’t a Mazdak at all. She was the child of Queen Esta I, and either a military commander who assisted her coup, or a bodyguard. Being born after Esta I took a vow of celbacy, and not being a child of the late king, Nefurere was never recognized as Esta I’s child.
I wanted to make a little comic about how Nefurere figured out her parentage. Also, i’m debating over whether Nefurere’s adoptive dad is her birth father or not, i haven’t decided yet.
Worldbuilding note: Veiling in the Aster Empire does not have a religious association, aside from religious beliefs of modesty. Instead, it’s based on middle eastern and (some) european historical veiling traditions. Wearing a veil is somewhat comparable to women being expected to wear dresses in the united states, several decades ago.
