I'm rereading the Overhill series right now and MAN I forgot just how much I love Asti. He's such a character. He tried to be intimidating but just ends up being really dramatic in return. He's petty. He's both overly confident in himself and super insecure. I fucking love this guy.
Happy STS! Which character would absolutely love to meet? Which character do you never ever want to run into?
Happy STS! And thank you for the ask!
For both, I can say Asti and Penny.
I'd love to meet Penny because she's smart and probably the best mentor figure I've ever written. I'd like to meet her for advice, and generally because she'd be such a fun person to hang around. And for Asti - I actually think we might get along. We have the same work-ethic (and I just self-projected the absolute shit onto him in Human After All) so I belive we could be friends.
And why I'd never want to run onto both of them:
Penny would absolutely steal something from me or con me. I've mentioned previously that what I love about her is, how unpredictable she is and that even I have no idea what she is thinking at any given moment. Which is why I belive she could even scam me, her creator - seriosly.
And Asti... While I belive we could get along, I also know that it would take a long while to actually get on his good side and that he has quiet the temper - especially in the earlier Overhill stories.
Happy Blorbo Blurbsday!
Tell me something about your favorite character you write.
Thank you so much for the ask, CL! :)
My favorite character to write, ever since the early winter of 2020 has been Asti. So, here is the general premise of the character, followed by some lesser-known things about him that I still adore!
First of all, Astaroth, also referred to as V.O.I.D 2.5 or just 'Asti' occasionally, was the villian of the first Overhill-story I wrote when I was still a stupid little teen. He is an AI assistant, projected through the pair of shades Cyrus is wearing. While at the start, Asti was just a character I made as a pardoy of villian-tropes, he quickly turned into one of my favorite characters to write and even has his own spinoff by now.
His fatal flaw? Asti constantly wears dark sunglasses to disguise the fact that his human shape is yet imperfect - and that it has palid, yellow eyes that aren't rendered perfectly. This perfectionism as well as his moody nature and hilariously fast fuse have actually also made him the favorite character of my other readers.
Allright - enough lore. Let's get on with the fun facts!
-Asti is deadly afraid of crabs and canadian geese. Considering his body is literally just a pair of glasses, this is reasonable, but still funny.
-He is also the source behind my URL! Because while in some way, it kinda fits me, Asti is the original Salty Supercomputer.
-Speaking of which - my main inspiration for him was the SQUIP from Be More Chill. To this das, he sounds like Eric William Morris in my head, no one can stop me
-Something that suprised me while writing was his friendship with canadian college student Kira - they just kinda interacted in the outline but in the first draft, they just had the best dynamic ever - probably because both of them disliked Cyrus. I still very much want to make the two of them a couple but then again, it would be OOC for both characters
Thanks for the tag @frostedlemonwriter!
Ahh, I love this tag game. It's so fun. Hell yeah, gamefication :)
My words are: Flee, reach, intense, blood, rain
All of these are very likely in Human After All. So I'll make things easier for myself and just... Pick words from Human After All only. .
Tagging: Open Tag! Please hop on and say I tagged you! I love to read your stuff! Your words are: Needle, Bang, Guest, Boat and Upset.
Flee
It could just as likely just have been seven different versions of 'all I want for christmas', all remixed in a different way, but I didn't wanto to get ahead of myself.
I went to flee to my favorite coffee-store, only to find out that it was infected as well: The barista wore a Santa-hat and everything was covered in glitter and homemade cookies were sold outside the door.
That itself wasn't bad, but by all means: It was the beginning of November! Why had all of Portland suddenly recieved this much christmas-spirit?
Reach
"Are you feeling nauseous too?",
"A little.",
Penny spun the little pill around in her fingers.
"Then you maybe shouldn't take this. Would loose its effect if you throw up, you know?",
I grimaced at the though and gave her a bitter smile while reaching for the cola bottle that Edric had hogged all for himself in the corner..
"I don't care about that at the moment, Penny. I just want it to go away."
Intense
I had to be really tired.
I tried to shake it off my looking down at my phone and shaking my head, as well as completely ignoring the intense private-lesson in phillosophy my body had put me through.
Blood
Completely disturbed, I sumbled back a couple of steps and coughed into my palms. As I looked down on them, they were covered in blood.
I could faintly see it because the smoke was growing much thicker around me, but I could feel the warm, sticky prickling on my hands.
Rain
Suprisingly - Not found! (Doesn't it rain in Portland? Appearantly not in this story.) Fun fact: For HAA, I had a full list of who had given what nickname to Asti and how they called him. For Edric, it was 'Buddy', for Jack, usually 'AyTee', Lotta called him 'A-Man' and Penny usually 'Astiboy' cause... y'know, she's penny.
