Was doing a practice lesson on Skillshare, and drew this in a lesson on composition and perspective - the Astoria Column and Astoria-Megler Bridge in Astoria, Oregon ^-^ Love how this turned out, and I always love seeing the lights on the column around Christmas :)

Guess who's at the Astoria column today. It was only 2 mi from the job site so I figured I'd better go by.

We Are Off On Another Adventure

We made our way North to Astoria where we went to the Astoria Column that was an interesting walk and I am afraid of high places the walk up was no picnic either especially for me I am a little out of shape to make that walk

But the view was incredible it was a clear day and I could see so far even though my back was hugging the wall of the Column

I did make a trek to the Washington Monument once and they had an elevator this place has a spiral staircase and it is so narrow I got really close to this place and the landings were my friends

The wall really was my friend as well and I was really loving the zoom on my phone

That’s the Astoria Bridge in the distance it really was a great day to be there everything was clear and beautiful sometimes you can’t even see Washington on the other side of the bridge generally its foggy or raining I got lucky on this day and I was grateful for it

The bay was a little choppy but for the most part it was pretty calm I saw a speed boat taking its chances on the bay after we left. We did have a rainy day but the rain quickly dissipated and the sun came out

I was really pleased with the pictures I got if you saw me up here you would have laughed my back stayed so close to that wall I looked like I was sneaking around the column but that was as close to the edge as I wanted to get

This was my adventure to The Astoria Column and this was my determination to conquer a fear of high places maybe someday I won’t be so freaked out but then again maybe not

Day Trippin’ - Astoria, OR

We spent the day along the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon. We really like this town, it has a lovely pedestrian/bike walkway along the river front. There is a trolley that runs along this same walkway - $1 to ride, $2 to ride all day. We started out at one of the little riverside restaurants for lunch, Bridgewood Bistro. Wonderful view and good food. Our first stop along the walkway was the Astoria-Megler Bridge, which we had driven across on our way here from Ocean Park. It is quite an impressive structure:

We wandered along the river walkway, taking in the views on the river and enjoying the beautiful day.

We meandered up to the old Fort Astoria site.

We stopped at the original settlement site, right next to Fort Astoria.

We had a great visit at the Heritage Museum - we needed a break from the sun and we loved learning a few facts about Astoria.

The Heritage Museum was actually very entertaining. Aside from providing wonderful information about the indigenous people in the area, it also had displays about fishing and logging. My favorite was the medical display, there were some interesting objects on display here:

A birthing table and a pelvic exam table - made me wince! Look at what is in that drawer!!

They also had a wall of interesting trivia about Astoria.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

Cool bar in the museum, it was called The Louvre.

While we were in the museum, Doug walked back to where our truck was parked and drove it over to pick us up. Our next destination, the Astoria Column. Last time we were in Astoria it was being restored so we had not been able to climb up to the top of the column or see the outside of the column. They did a beautiful job restoring the outside - the pictures on the column tell the history of the area.

On our way back to AJ and Dan’s condo we stopped and picked up Italian food at Galletti’s in Long Beach - the food was delicious, by the way. We wanted to watch a little U.S. Open tennis on TV. AJ and I took a short walk along beach at Surfside, while Doug and Dan stayed at the condo. The beach was gorgeous as the sun was setting.
