astral spaces & homes
This post contains a fair amount of UPG.
what is an astral home?
an astral home can be anything really, anything that you can imagine and create in the astral. it can be a large mansion, it can be an apartment building, it can be a cave, it can be a treehouse, really the only limits are your own creativity and the amount of energy spent into building it up. it is a place where you can call your own, basically a home, or even a headquarters or base of operations if you wanna call it that (plus, it sounds cooler).
why build an astral home?
astral homes are the starting point in the astral for a lot of travellers, or it is a safe place for resting, recharging, storage, and practising magic or other forms of astral work. it can be the first place you are in when you step into the astral, and can help get you accustomed to crossing over before fully venturing out into other parts of the astral. it can also be the place you return you when you’re done exploring or running astral errands and just want to unwind. or it can be a safe place for if you want to leave your astral self somewhere without dangers or worrying about getting lost.
for me, my astral home is my jump point and a place to unwind and perform magic. my astral home is anchored to my bedroom door, so to get there I open the astral version of my bedroom door. it is the first place I go to when I astral travel, and it is where I perform all my magic and create new stuff in the astral.
speaking of astral creation, creating astral objects would be easiest in a space that you built up yourself. here, the energy will be easier to manipulate and you are able to change and edit and build existing or new things with greater control and ease. compared to creating something in an astral realm that already exists where the energetical foundations are more solidified, you are more familiar with your own space the energetic components of the space.
if you’re a closeted witch, performing spellwork or rituals in the astral would probably be a more viable way for you to do witchcraft. an astral home would let you do that safely and store all the resources you need for that.
how do I protect my astral home or keep anyone from coming in?
wards. wards wards wards. layers upon layers of wards. you really have to take into account how you’re going to maintain these wards and what kind of wards you’re going to need and how you’re going to power these wards. if you don’t want your astral space to be found completely, use a cloaking ward or just layer up the wards to prevent entry. ensure that your wards are able to cover your entire astral space, even as you expand it.
here is a comprehensive post on ward ideas that you can use to protect your astral space, but I can do a brief overview of how I ward.
astral warding is very energetical, so I use the help of sigils, energy tethers, and surrounding energy to power my wards. something that I do is putting a sigil somewhere where it can be constantly charged by a source of energy, and then I go into the astral and etch this sigil into the specific wards I want to be powered by the energy, then form a connection or a tether between them. for example, I would put an air sigil somewhere high up where it’s windier and then put the same sigil on an anti-teleportation ward. then I will connect the two sigils and use the energy from that connection to program the ward.
how to build an astral home
here is a really helpful and informative post from @fox-sprt that covers how to make your own astral space. I’m not going to dwell into basics, but I shall cover some tips on this whole process.
have a blueprint or a plan before you start building [use drawings, documents, Pinterest boards, mood boards, playlists, etc. whatever helps the creative process]
it’s better to have a solid idea of what you want your space to be like before you actually start building it or else you might run into a whole bunch of complications and confusing times
the more time you spend in your astral space or thinking or visualizing it will help to solidify the details and basically set a stable foundation
you can sit down in your astral home and set some time aside to just visualize and set in the texture and appearance of a specific detail [e.g. how would this grass feel? soft? like a carpet? is it green? decide and input it into the building process]
it’s okay to take a long time just to build a small part, or to build it up one small part at a time, everyone has a different working pace, it’s okay.
what can I put in my astral home?
anything, really! just make sure that you’re able to maintain and ensure that all these features are able to fit into your home.
Some ideas would be:
a main space for meditation or ritual work or creation
a garden where you can grow astral plants for food or trade
a place to rest or sleep
areas for your spirit companions (try letting them help build it up)
a walk-in closet
a kitchen or pantry for food
storage areas
a jacuzzi (fill it with something fun like pink suds)
a pool
how can I maintain my astral home?
astral spaces aren’t just about building something and hoping it’ll stay in tiptop condition forever. just like you shouldn’t leave whole astral planes you made lying around, you shouldn’t go without doing at least some baseline maintenance. infrastructure with moving parts (see: elevator, escalator, etc.) and flow of energy (see: shower system, water filtration system) are the ones that usually need more maintenance. sometimes things fall apart or something gets clogged, you have to make sure you’re able to tackle some issues or work out these problems when you’re building the place.
a good thing to do would be to cleanse frequently and check your wards and infrastructure for any leaks, cracks, shakiness, or foundational wonkiness. this way you’ll always have a good idea of what’s going on around your home.
can I bring anyone into my astral home?
yes, if that’s what you want to do. if you’re inviting an astral dweller into your home, simply make sure that they can pass through the wards (a safety check of sorts) and set some ground rules. you can have a house rules ward for this if you want.
if you’re inviting someone from the physical, another astral traveller into your home, make sure that they can locate the place. energetical tracking or some sort of identifier or clear directions will definitely help. also ensure that they can pass through the wards. you could try installing like a front door or an entrance with a clear marker so that they know that they’re in the right place.
you can give your spirit family access to your astral home, it’s a good way to make sure everyone has the space and a common area to just chill. besides, it’s also fun to be able to hang out with everyone and go on astral adventures in full capacity when you’re in the astral.
the difference between pocket realms vs non-pocket realm astral spaces
there is a difference between creating a new realm and inserting it into the astral and calling it your home, and making a home in a realm that already exists or is created by someone else.
it is entirely possible to create an entire astral plane, or as I shall call it a pocket realm, in the astral. [UPG ahead] Over time, these pocket realms that you create will slowly become more of a part of the astral instead of a place between the physical and the astral, that is if your intention was to put it in the astral. Usually making a pocket realm means that it gives you more control of your surroundings because the place came from you and your own work, and you’d be the only inhabitant.
However, sometimes you may find that you want to make a home in a realm that already exists. For example, you might want to get to be closer to astral life while also having a place to call your own. That way, you might want to think about moving into an astral city or village or town or wherever you can safely build a house or even buy a house or that is acceptable by the social and legal norms of the astral realm for you to live there.
can I travel from my astral home?
yes. I personally do that by using doors that I built into my astral space made specifically for teleportation (but I have to bring or take them back to my astral space after astral travelling), or flying off from my astral space.
here’s a few ideas for how you can do that:
doors made for the purpose of travelling
a water body that you can use to swim somewhere else
mirrors for teleportation
some sort of escalator or elevator system (more for travelling around within your own space if it’s big)
a vehicle (have a garage in your astral space maybe)
all in all, astral homes can be very fulfilling and helpful in your astral journey and if it sounds like something you’d like, just stay safe and make sure you’re updated on your warding practices and are able to plan out your astral space before going into the astral to build one.

Thoughts on Grounding before magic
A bunch of ppl in the magic/ witchblr community suggest you DONT ground yourself before talking with spirits/astraling etc. I AM HERE TO DISAGREE.
[side note- this is all UPG. Everyone has there own experiences and techniques that work for them. Just for some context, i have diagnosed ADHD, OCD, anxiety, and mild depression. This results in extreme low energy at times, as well as having difficulty going into a trance state or focusing on anything for more than, like, 3 seconds lmao. So this is just what i have found works for me and makes sense to me.]
So theres two (2) types of grounding, or at least 2 types that i defined for myself: mental/physical grounding, and spiritual grounding.
Mental/physical grounding is pretty straightforward- ur like, not in a dissociative state and youre living in the present for the most part/in the highest layer of conciousness. @chaosjelly clearly explains how i think of the levels of conciousness in one of their most recent posts. (Basically the concious, subconscious, and unconcious.)
Spiritual grounding is a lil different in that “grounding” your energy varies depending on your energy alignments. For instance, if youre void aligned u might energetically ground yourself by connecting to the void source well.
So why would people say not to ground before doing magic? I suspect it has to do with the assumption of what grounding means, and the vibration of the magic youre working with. If you assume that grounding means (spiritually) plugging into the physical 3rd dimension on all levels, then yes, that could make it hard to work with higher vibrational frequencies. But if youre only plugging into the 3rd dimension on the concious mental level (not subconscious or unconscious), theoretically you shouldnt have a problem. [again, this is just my experience. You might have a very different one and thats cool, too.]
Here’s how i use this theory in my practice-
I take myself into a trance state. I define a light trance state as leaving the conscious mind in the physical realm and turning the attention to the subconscious. A deep(er) trance state would be leaving the subconscious and turning attention to the unconscious. Depending on what kind of work I want to do, Ill go to the the subconscious or the unconscious, though the unconscious is definitely a bit harder to get to.
Once I’m in a trance, i find the mental space i made specifically to be a bridge to the astral, and also just an energetic safe space. (I highly highly encourage this not just for people working with magic, but even for those who want/need a safe space to be alone, feel whatever, and do whatever you like. Kinda like a really intense daydream)
Once im in my mental space, i can do whatever the fuck i want, but for the sake of this post, lets say i want to spirituality ground. How would i do that? Well, sometimes i work with the traditional 4 elements, sometimes specific spirits, sometimes dieties, sometimes my higher self. So i call on those guys and imagine my energy being connected with em’ via a cord, and i set a sort of time limit on the connection.
Once im “grounded” spiritually i can feel more safe to astral travel or talk with spirits and such. Tbh im still working on my astral travel and im in the process of kinda bridging my mental space to an identical but astral copy of it. As i learn more ill share with yall, but thats all i got for now. Feel free to add on or disagree or ask questions, i love chatting abt this stuff

I've been spending A LOT of time in my mind space (astral space?) lately as i learn and heal and interact with my spirit guardian.
Does anyone have any advice or tips about making your mindspace your own, protecting it, etc? This is all extremely new to me and at this point tbh I'm just kind of learning through my experiences, it would be nice it get some actual information and advice.
Thanks in advance 😁
Book: Your astral place should be your second home. It should be a space where you feel the most comfortable.
Me: Oh! Okay!
Me: *Proceeds to replicate the Queen Grimhilde's castle from the original Snow White cartoon.*
I noticed something weird about astral travel and feel free to comment of you have the same experience, but when I am doing astral projection and I am on the astral plane all colours are extremely vibrant. OMG blue is so beautiful there I feel overcome with the way it looks. But on the other hand, if I'm traveling and for whatever reason I need to be consious in both the astral and our plane I notice that the colours on our plane is extremely saturated. Yellows and oranges are very bright but greens are almost grey and there is almost always black and white besides the yellows and oranges. But when I fully leave the astral plane and return to my body colours are normal again. Anyone else experience something similar?
Quasi-Astral Spaces
What is a Quasi-astral space? It is a space that is not directly in the astral but connects to it.
Why and what for? A space such as this can be helpful in a person’s path if they desire to try out astral travel or astral projection. By having this space, it can allow a degree of control over the area before jumping into full-fledged astral work and spaces. There is also a degree of higher security with quasi-astral spaces, but with anything it does not mean it is fully secure.
A More In-Depth Explanation
Think of it similarly to a personal astral space where you create it in the astral, but different. Usually these spaces have a connection to an energetic system in the physical. These spaces tend to have a larger investment of personal energy donated to their creation, and usually form to fit the needs of the person. Many quasi-astral spaces are comparable to a mind or heart space.*
*These are spaces created by the individual, most commonly found in tulpamancy
With that being said, being involved in tulpamancy or being a system is not required to have a quasi-astral space. It is only used as an example to illustrate the point.
Continuing on with the mind and heart space example, they have a connection to energy centers in the body. With that connection between the two, a formation of a quasi-astral can be further developed. These quasi-astral spaces can overlay with the energy center and perform a specific function in that particular space.
It can also follow the 12 point energy system, as those each correlate to a different symbolic meaning. Creating a quasi-astral space in the other energy points is to do so at your own discretion. Mind and heart spaces are the two most commonly known versions of quasi-astral spaces.
Keep in mind that it is important to eliminate any psychological or other health issues before assuming it is spiritual. Eliminate any mundane causes beforehand.
Creation of a Quasi-Astral Space
These spaces can be designed just like an astral space would be, but with less time. The astral is similar to the physical world as it can take time for things to change and for things to grow. This is not completely the case in a quasi-astral space as rules can be bent. Though, beware of imagination as well and use discernment. Just because it is more malleable does not mean it will always bend to your will.
In a quasi-astral space, time usually does not move as it would in the astral, unless that is a function of your space. The creation of the space can be up to you but not always, certain spaces may be pre-made for you. All though they can be manipulated to your desire but with a few rule limitations.
If a person decides to go a heart or mind space route, they may find different things in each of the spaces. Functions will vary in each of them. If you decide to change something up in a space and it does not budge, it is more than likely something you cannot change. There is a degree of permanence in quasi-astral spaces unlike the full-fledged astral. If you leave and come back, not much may change.
Be sure to check that the space has a type of door or entrance. You will more than likely have a spawn point and not enter in through the “visitor” entrance. If your space has an entrance to the larger astral, be sure that you can lock it so no one comes it. You should be able to manipulate the door to lock, or wholly will it away if you do not want a door. This is a safety measure if you do not want others coming in.
A tip: Track changes in the quasi-astral space if you encounter any and make a note of it to see if it is like that the next time you visit.
How to access a quasi-astral space?
Accessing these spaces can be done in a variety of different ways. Here are just a few that can help: Meditation, Astral Travel, Looking-inwards (the act of peering in on your astral space then traveling to it), and Astral projection. Please note that it is never required to leave the body as these spaces can connect to the body’s energy center, so it’s more you going “in” than out. Whatever method you decide to pick is up to you, there is no wrong way.
A quick note on safety:
As these spaces can form and overlay on top of energy systems linked to a person’s body, there can be an issue of safety. These spaces generally do not allow spirits or other entities to directly interact with the energy system. Still there is a possibility of safety and health, please practice safely. As with all personal astral spaces, quasi or not, security can be breached so protections are still wise to have. Create whatever protections you would like to keep your space safe if you leave it open.
If you decide to interact with spirits or companions in these spaces, or even try this out. Please practice active discernment. Also, please be sure to eliminate mundane causes before resorting to spiritual conclusions. In general, depending on the function of the quasi-astral space, it should be for personal use before diving completely into the astral. It is a step in-between.
When using quasi-astral spaces please practice safely, use discernment and do not skimp on reading or protection. This is merely introductory to the subject.
I think the greatest proof of how I've grown mentally and spiritually in the past year is how my astral safe space has changed. When I started it it was dark and isolated and lonely. Nobody could get in, not my gods, not my guardians, not my companions. I was safe because I was alone and no one could find me. Now it's a place filled with sunlight and warmth. It's now big and expansive, it amazes me how much space something I created can have. But my favorite part is that it's a working space now. I can allow spirits in. I can train with Rel, or have a conversation with my gods, or meditate with Raphael or Michael. Im not safe because I'm alone, im safe because I have the power to choose who comes in, and I have faith that I can stop those I wish to
