okay im finally asking.. who is parse and why do u hate love them ?
I would apologize for this rant in advance but ur neurotypical too so ik u understand. Anyway:
Kent Parson (known as Parse) is a side character from the webcomic Check Please! The comic follows Eric Bittle (known as Bitty) who is a gay hockey player in college as he finds friends, found family, and love. It’s a super cute and wholesome story!
Parse is barely there. His main role as a character is to be an asshole. I’m not even kidding.
Jack canonically has anxiety, which Parse was WELL AWARE OF, so this god awful conversation triggers a panic attack. And even if Jack didn’t have anxiety, this still wouldn’t be acceptable!!
In addition, there was a period of time when a lot of Parse stans were being dicks to the creator of the webcomic bc they were mad he didn’t show up more. They also harassed some of my friends, who dislike Parse a lot. This soured Parse’s character for me a lot bc of how many fans were being dicks towards REAL PEOPLE over a fictional character.
So yeah. I hate him.
You may be wondering how I could possibly like Parse with all of that to deal with. (I wonder sometimes, too.) First, you need to understand that my mutual who got me into the comic in the first place Annie @biginnyweasley is a Parse stan. After I finished the comic, I was like, “Hey, I want to study Annie’s brain and also their taste in fictional men. She’s a lesbian; they HAVE to have good taste, right?” So I read some Parse fics.
They were unfortunately well written. I say unfortunate because I started to like Parse, even though I still hated him.
I think the main attraction to Parse is how he’s truly just a messy, fucked up person lol and so it’s child’s play to project all your personal issues onto him. I used to be a mess of internalized transphobia and homophobia and in the process hurt myself and my friends. But I changed for the better. That’s why Parse is such a fun character to write or read (if the author has the same galaxy brain as i do 🙏). He’s a horrible person!! He treated Jack like shit!! Now let’s watch as he ruins his life and claws his way up to being kind, being good with his torn and raggedy fingernails. He’s basically cardboard redemption arc fodder.
I still hate him, though, and I will continue to make fun of him with my mutuals until my hyperfixation ends.
