Quick comm for Phoebe Bane of her new Starfinder character, an astrazoan-themed technological hellschmutz that broke off from the hivemind and is learning about friendship!
Meet the Starfinder - The Spy
“Our first dying wish is Scout’s. He’s…drawn a picture of me getting hit by a car.”
Our last class is the Spy. Disguising yourself as the enemy, infiltrating their ranks and stabbing them in the back before vanishing into the night. An obvious build? Maybe not!
Get to know our characters! Fly Free or Die Edition
Ballad Serenade (she/they) - A 300 year old pink android catgirl mafia assassin (yeah, we know it’s a bit much). They use their solarian power to absolutely obliterate the baddies... and sometimes the not-so-baddies, but who’s checking? Likes: fashion, clubbing, making music. Dislikes: being tied down, the Golden League.
Friday Francisco (he/him) - Our fearless captain, our affable purple leader, our tin-gun toting, reality bending, 7-foot-tall good time guy. Originally a country farmboy by trade, he’s now the head of our rogue space trucking operation. Likes: flirting, hijinks, adventure. Dislikes: unnecessary violence.
Rhalora Resora AKA Miss Fanny (he/she/they) - Every group needs a grandma. Miss Fanny uses her four arms to feed her found family, pilot our ship with a deftness nigh unheard of in near space, and dole out some pain when needed. But that’s just in one of her forms. Yeah, they can shapeshift, and as an astrazoan, they’ve led many interesting lives. Likes: exploring (in many senses), leaving their enemies in the dust, Soap Operas. Dislikes: messes, EJ Corp.
Seren Casurus (xhe/xer) - 7′5″ and made of blue crystal, xhe’s soft and anxious on the inside, but hard (literally) and imposing on the outside. Xhe prides xerself on xer prowess in engineering, and can often be found tinkering with xer companion robot Jambot. Likes: being acknowledged for xer skill as a mechanic, music (particularly ska). Dislikes: the Golden League, conflict, marooned ones.

Races Among the Stars 1: Astrazoan
Shapeshifting races are a common staple of both fantasy and science fiction, and today we’re looking one such creature, the astrazoan.
While not 100 percent confirmed, it would seem that the astrazoans are descended from a race mentioned back in Pathfinder’s Distant Worlds book, but never really statted up: The Ilee.
The Ilee were natives of the world-ship planet Apostae, the survivors of whatever race once piloted the hollowed-out planet in an age long since passed. Even in the era of Golarion, however, the planet Apostae was a derelict, and whatever cloning technology was responsible for the perpetuation of their race had gone haywire, causing each ilee that came out to be a completely unique creatures, sporting any number of limbs or abilities (basically allowing the GM to create or reskin pretty much any creature they want).
However, presumably after an unknown event, perhaps the failure of those cloning machines, the ilee had to use genetic technology to change themselves into their current form, and fled their home, leaving Apostae to the drow.
This took place during the Gap, however, so even the astrazoans themselves have no real idea of their origins or even how many they number, and while their motivations vary, they tend to keep to themselves and hide their true forms to avoid alarming their neighbors.
Resembling a giant seven-armed starfish that had been subtly reshaped into a vaguely humanoid form, these beings are capable of altering their body structure, skin texture, and coloration to mimic any species of comparable size that they have seen before, though they can’t really mimic any advanced abilities that said forms would otherwise possess. As such, they tend to mimic humanoids who don’t sport such abilities unless they have no other choice.
As a dispersed people, astrazoans don’t have much in the way of a society, so instead they adapt rapidly to whatever culture they are currently a part of, some even developing permanent gender identities, though others remain genderfluid.
Flexible and adept at evoking emotion, astrazoans nevertheless have surprisingly frail bodies.
Their shapeshifting abilities work best when mimicking humanoids or other aberrant beings, though they can nonetheless mimic any creature of the same size as themselves.
Their mutable forms also allow them to slip through very small gaps.
Whether it be their many eyes in their true form, or those of the form they are taking, these shapeshifters have keen night vision.
Though their forms are strange, these beings are both humanoids and aberrations.
While they do not possess true regeneration, like the starfish they resemble they can heal themselves with a short rest, recovering not just their stamina, but also from true injuries, though this healing is not infinite.
Astrazoans really excel in classes that specialize in deception and disguise, such as operatives and envoys, but they can do well in any class, though naturally vanguards and tanky builds have a slight disadvantage. Depending on the game, an astrazoan might go the whole campaign without having to reveal their true form, though it could be a bit of a shock if the rest of the party are not expecting it.
