Had a buckwild dream but I'm going to strip out those buckwild elements in favor of the more normal but utterly delightful ones, namely:
Modern AU Asuma runs into Gai, who doesn't recognize him because Asuma transitioned in the past ten years, and Gai's already a little faceblind. They'd previously known each other because they dated in middle school/early high school, before Asuma realized he was trans and when Gai was still trying to convince himself he was straight. The relationship ended with Gai going "I think I actually like boys?" before Asuma realized he was, in fact, a boy, and they broke up amicably but by that point were at different schools so they grew apart because without dating they didn't have an excuse to see each other.
The reason they ran into each other again as adults is because Asuma was getting a haircut and Gai was friends with the barber, stopped by to say hello and at one point like. Put a hand on Asuma's shoulder for some reason? And Asuma quietly panicked because (and I felt this via? his perspective? IDK but the panic woke me up) he had to remind himself that this was just a friendly ex and Gai just *does* this, not someone trying to surreptitiously feel his binder to 'prove' something.
The barber didn't have a real identity in the dream but let's say it was Genma.
