सत्ता मासूम बच्चों, बूढ़ी औरतों, जवान मर्दों, की लाशों के ढेर पर चढ़ कर जो सत्ता के सिंहासन तक पहुँचना चाहते हैं उनसे मेरा एक सवाल है: क्या मरने वालों के साथ उनका कोई रिश्ता न था? न सही धर्म का नाता, क्या धरती का भी संबंध नहीं था? 'पृथ्वी माँ और हम उसके पुत्र हैं।' अथर्ववेद का यह मंत्र क्या सिर्फ जपने के लिए है, जीने के लिए नहीं? आग में जले बच्चे, वासना की शिकार औरतें, राख में बदले घर न सभ्यता का प्रमाण पत्र हैं, न देश-भक्ति का तमगा, वे यदि घोशणा-पत्र हैं तो पशुता का, प्रमाण हैं तो पतितावस्था का, ऐसे कपूतों से माँ का निपूती रहना ही अच्छा था, निर्दोष रक्त से सनी राजगद्दी, श्मशान की धूल से भी गिरी है, सत्ता की अनियंत्रित भूख रक्त-पिपासा से भी बुरी है। - अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी .... As politics in our country hits a new low with upcoming elections, one can take a cue from this prose poem of the poet Prime Minister whose sensitivity and sensibility as a poet was markedly different from the ideologies of the party whose cause he espoused. . . What can we do: We can take heed and not let anyone open and close discussions for us. And certainly not speak for us as a collective or paint us with one brush. . . A note on the book itself: Enjoyed the originals. The English translation is too literal and not to my taste.
