it's a good time to call it quits when she starts folding herself out of her chair. books littered the table, and she set about the nightly routine of placing them all in their place before checking that they were actually where they were supposed to be. habits kept people alive. habits kept barb sane.
the tap on her shoulder would've startled her a long time ago, but these days it's easier to swallow the initial bolt of panic and face things head on. she looks from shoulder to tapping fingers and- well, it isn't the first time she's been later than usual. won't be the last, either.
"something i can help you with, or did you just want to tap my shoulder?" she asks, unfazed and somehow calmer with everything in it's place. "can't say we've met before."
